hit and run
This morning on the way to work. I was in a long line of car waiting for the light to make a right turn. A big white American made 4 door car (3rd or 4th car behind me in the line) decide to leave the line and come back to cut in front of me. My car wasn't move at all and his car left a mark on my bumper.
I was pretty stupid at the time thinking the wind was blowing my car when it shakes a little, after I arrive work I had some doubt about the event and this is what I found.
Tracking license plate "Elsie1" in CA now...

anyone know how much to replace a new bumper?
Have any CHP friends? Oh, I know what you MIGHT be able to do. Go to that area's police dept., explain what happened and that you want to file a report. Share the license plate with the officer and then ask if they can give you ANY contact information. If nothing else, you now have a police report on file to go to your insurance with. To try and avoid dishing out the $ on your policy, maybe your insurance company will be willing to fine "Elsie 1". Only other hope is if you have a DMV friend or can sweet talk some clerk at the DMV.
Sorry that jerk did that! I had the same thing (after a stay @ the dealership) but with white marks on my black bumper. My detail guy was able to get the scuff marks out with some wax and alot of elbow grease.

you cant file a report now.
take the plate # to the police station, explain exactly what happened and they will most likely give you a contact number.
thats what i did and they gave me the phone number. with that, you can easily find the address. then, all you gotta do is find a really big hammer

Mr. TL,
It's worth a try in regards to filling a report out. I went to the police dept. w/ a license plate after a van had bumped me in a parking lot (van was still parked making contact w/ my car). I took the license plate down to the station (after the original date) and the officer allowed me to fill out a report. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I am saying it's worth it to try

In MA people can file a charge against someone like that in a local Small Claim Court. That exactly what I did a few years when some guy was backing and hit my driver's side door. However I did get his info such as driver license #, etc.
I'm very sorry to see that scratch and hope that you will catch that guy soon.

Since you are in CA, you can report this loss to your own insurance company and they can track down who the owner is. Since this will be considered a non-fault loss, your rates should not be affected.
Tell ya what you should do before anything. Go buy a good clay bar...and lubricate the area and clay bar it to death. You'll be surprised how much will come off. If that's their paint I'm seeing on your bumper all of it should come off...then just wax it and you're done. To sand and repaint a bumper using Acura's bodyshop it's $250...that's what they'd need to do to fix it if it's deeper than I think. And definitely file a report.

Dayamn! People these days piss me off. Same thing happened to me, but I didn't notice it until a few weeks ago. My car goes in the shop, total cost of repair? $733.65 but that's because I have to fix my hood from my sons bike too.

After three day my insurance company finally look into the license plate, and have a matched car with my info.
Insurance is writing me a check of around $400 from their est. I think that is too low to fix the damage.
Since insurance agrees that it was other driver's fault, would it be mean if I go find some autoshops and jack up the amount for repair cost to pay for my mental damage (crying overy my car)? hee

Let me get this straight....YOUR insurance is looking into the Crown Vic's license plate but is still going to pay for your damages? Definitely go get estimates on your own! Here's why. Sometimes an insurance company will pay for their client's damages.....and then go after the responsible party's insurance company for reimbursement. Translation.......if you think $400 is too low for a good quality job....then take it for an estimate to the shop of your choice. Eventually the Crown Vic's insurance (if they have any) will pay for it. Is there a deductible you are going to have to fork up?

"white american made car"
Right now I am getting some estimates to get a better repair job.
Still have to bring the estimates to the insurance company to make sure they agree to the estimates.
