HID's question.

Well one day I was going to work, both lights worked perfectly, so i get out of work 7hours later and my driver side lights gone. I go home, change a fuse a.bam! Its fixed! Or was for 2minutes. the light would go out but the fuse wasnt burnt(the first one was) So the fuse isnt burnt but it did make a loud pop and the light dies again.

I bought a used ballast to solve the problem, and it did. So i have matching bulbs but my lights dont match. Does the ballast still need burn time? Ive been driving for about a week and it doesnt seem to be getting anywhere as bright as my other light.

Is this ballast going bad too?

I also wanted to know if the ballast has anything to do with the lights being different and if it still needs burn time since it is used.

Anyone know if getting an aftermarket HID set for 100$ would be a fine replacement?

Check your wiring connections and grounds.
Any existing moisture will play havoc with the system.

Many other Ziner's have had good luck with the newer compact and waterproof aftermarket kits available
through our sponsered vendors.

Does HIDxtra sell them for a reasonable price? Class is starting soon and I've been meaning to check their site but it somehow slips my mind to do so everytime.

Alright awesome!!

Side note: I found two cracks in each of my fog lights. After a car wash they were moist inside, they obviously didn't work but they do again once it dries up. Could that have done something to my lowbeams with my first ballast?

water and electrical components dont play well together.

inspect the ballast to see if they got wet!

see the 100000 treads on the weak lens seal for headlights- thats why a used ballast wont fix the problem, water kills ballast and capacitor..delicate electronics, high voltages and rust--not cool-

(make new lens for fogs from lexan to fix that issue)

new bulbs need 50 hours run time to fully burn in
new electrical need 0 time --they just put out power

hidextra.com 59$ kit D2 /r or s bulb base depends on year
get the 5000k bulbs to best see road with
stock were 4300

dont get any exta parts- not needed for us,,just the standard kit
look up by make on website then call to order- ask for JAY, he is sharp
tell him acurazine member
look online for 10% off coupons..or ask on phone

they have changed the standard kits ballast to a better design recently
and offer a high lumens output ballast in 35watt for a 100+,,
I would stay on standard 35 watt for average drivers and budget oriented,,
$59 for all you need except 2 dollars worth of connectors at parts store

note: stock ballast is directly below the air vent/drain hole on bottem of housing=
danger will robinson!

kit allows mounting of ballast away from that area,,and capacitor is built into the cord from ballast to bulb
stock is mounted on housing

Very awesome information man! Well I know my HIDs were not stock because even when I had to drive with one headlight the 5lane freeway was lit up for about 10-15feet in front of me.

So i should just ditch my current ballasts/bulbs and get a new one from HIDxtra?

How do you know that the "HID's" unit isn't stock oem ?
The HID bulbs will vary with intensity and brightness, depending upon age, brand and rating. If not a matched pair at time of replacement, the bulbs may operate differently !

bulbs lose intensity and color as they age
rusty innards of ballast dont put out full power to bulb
any gen2 TL is due for new system parts and bulbs based on age/time in use

just saw the new kit= good: shorter power cable ballast to bulb and more flexable = easier install
new bracket may actually be useful~
ballast slightly larger than before but still smaller than a deck of cards
seems better quality too
Good package, fast shipping

Many customers ask us, what makes a good hid kit from a bad one? Is it the xenon bulb? Is it the HID ballast. To put it in simple terms, it’s both and a little bit more.

We encourage you to read http://blog.hidextra.com/hidextra-hi...d-kit-quality/ so you will know why HIDextra kit is more superior than other aftermarket HIDs.

Hello Glockgen4! Thank you for your interest in our HID Kits.

If you are only replacing
your D2 bulb, you can simply swap the bulb. But we strongly recommend you buy the entire kit from us as we tune the ballast and the bulb to be matched with each other. We cannot guarantee proper functionality with other ballasts in the market.

Please provide your CAR Make / Year
/ Model so we can assist what HID Conversion kit you would need.

Thank you.

2001 TL. I just want to do the Low beams. The stuff in there now puts off a purpleish light and is kinda week. I emailed the tech guys at DDM and they said that the kits should work.. But I don't know if I should delete the old system or what.... I have never installed HID to a car that already has them..

gloc ck the many threads or diy on this
you toss the old stuff which is mounted under/inside light housing
install new stuff is simple
all you have to do is cut off a connector and install a new connector from those wires to the new ballast
if you can make a splice you can do this

hidextra `kit` works for conversion for others
for us, its a complete replacement of working parts and bulbs
already have correct power source and fuse/relay installed

do you want a kit that might work or should work..or one that hundreds/thousands of us gen2 are currently running?

59$ is pretty cheap, would I trust 30 dollar kit? not me

note: pink/purple tint = age death for bulbs
pretty soon it will stop working at all

Moisture issue cars: one light will go out driving, can be restored by flikking switch
may change sides,,blow new bulbs etc...

new bulbs need 50 hours run time to get fully bright and color set = burned in

Thank you for the reply, it helps a lot..

Do I trust $30 kit, absolutely yes. I had 2 of these sets in my Tundra. One low beam set and one fog light set. Had them for 3 years and received nothing but compliments on them. Super clean light that was awesome. I no longer have the Tundra, I thought about pullin them out, but I didn't....

Edit to say, I really don't care where I buy them from, its not that at all. I just wasn't sure how they matched up, no matter where they come from.....

every ziner running hidextra has positive comments
one or two ballast probs reported more than a year ago, those were warranty no prob,
and now a better ballast with capacitor built in and all sealed inside the case
Im was happy enough to install a set on neighbors car too!
