HID's got boosted.

I woke up yesterday to find my headlights missing. Looks like someone swept the area as the TL across the street also got hit. Has anyone come up with any kind of preventative solution to this. I've only had the car for three weeks and love it. I'm afraid to park it now and will be looking for a parking garage in my neighborhood. So far the cheapest I've found is $175 a month. Has any one experimented with bolting some kind of mesh under the hood and wrapping the headlights. I know this will look odd but I can't afford to deal with this again.

Try to get an alarm that will pay the insurance deductible, mine does. You can mold metal brackets on the rear of the headlights, but the thieves won't see it and will probably get pissed off and might do more damage.

They make something for the Maximas to secure there headlights. I haven't seen anything for the TL yet. Do you think with a little work you can get the Maxima secure system to work on the TL..

that really sucks dude. which part of queens do you in?.. for that reason when ever i go out i always seem to worry about parking on the streets. so i always to look for a parking lot. 175 is cheap compare to waht i pay for parking, 300 indoor.

First off, that Maxima "headlight" theft deterent is nothing more than a hood lock. Maybe that might work for the Maxima (I dunno how they mount their headlights) but it wouldnt do squat for the TL lights. The theives dont need to open the hood to get ours off. They just pry it starting from the corner until the headlight mounting tabs crack and break off. Thats why when you see then being sold on ebay, the ads usually say something about the mounting holes being cracked.

Nice of the eBay sellers to be honest about the quality of the
stolen merchandise they are selling! :p

As for better bracketing of our TL lights, the problem is that no thief will know it when they start prying. then they will just start prying harder and harder, ruining your fenders more and more as they go. Eventually the plastic headlight casing is going to crack and give way.

I was parked on 139th st in Briarwood, Queens. Just off of Queens blvd between Kew Gardens and Jamaica. Does anyone know how common this is in this area. Do you think my car is marked now. I'm afraid to leave it on the street for even one night now. This really sucks because the TL is one of the best cars I have owned. It would be a shame to have to get rid of it because of some jerk off's who are too lazy or stupid to work for a living.

the only thing you can probably do is install shock sensors around the headlight area so if someone taps the headlight area the alarm will go off

question:

if you park your car as close as to the wall or the garage door (asuuming you need to park it outside the garage), can the theft still get his hands to the lights?

Have you ever seen the way they take the lights from the car? They take a crowbar and they use it as a can opener. I have seen the Fox Five problem solver and they showed that it take 25 seconds to pop each light. It was unbelievable how low people would go to get few hundred dollars. They showed two guys approaching a car on one night checking it seeing if there is an alarm on the car shaking the car and seeing if it will be a big hassle for them to take the lights out. The next day they return and they show how with in seconds the lights get taken out and they leave with out anyone knowing.

Amazing that Acura is not doing anything about it. Yet look at BMW, Lexus, and other cars have Xeon lights and that does not happen to them.

I have been a victim already 3 times and believe me the insurance on my Acura 2001 3.2TL is $4,000 and change. I have been trying to sell my car for 2 months now.

At this moment there is possibly nothing you can do. But the only one thing is sleep in your car if you love it that much, or park it in a garage.

Sorry to hear that, bro! But in queens, brooklyn, and NJ the TL headlights are stolen constantly. I go to queens all the time, but I will never park it overnight unless it is gargage. It is a shame that ppl have to give up this car just because they don't want to get their lights to get stolen again. Acura should have taken care of this problem long time ago. You don't hear headlights being stolen from beemers or lexus, but always TLs and Maximas.
