HID upgrade question
My driver side hid is intermittent and the passenger side light color temp. has lowered to somewhere around 4000K.
I was thinking since im due for a new ballast, then why not a 55 watt for a better output. I wanted you knowledgable enlightened guys to help me out here. Which part(s) do I need to change here, just the ballast or anything else too beside the bulbs ofcourse. From what I understand, the ballast transforms the 12V power from the battery to the 20 000V or whatever voltage that the HID system requires but what does the ignitors do? I've been looking at DDM 55W HID kit. Is this a complete replacement of the stock HID system or should I buy the HID hanrness also?

The Igniter is the little bastard that sends that output first, The ballast just maintains the Voltage Current so the bulb remains on...
I don´t recommend using 55W even if our headlights come with HID OEM, 55W HID is a Universe apart. Its so much light that youll be blinding incoming cars all the way even if the Headlight is well aimed.
My 2 Cents.

I was having a problem with my pass side flickering too and went to a 55w. It seemed to help actually(not sure why though). Since replacing them with the 55w I haven't had any problems, even turning then on and off rapidly. Not sure if it helps but...

Did you just put 55W bulbs on OEM system or changed your ballast to 55W also ?

stick with the 35w.....if you buy the ddm kit, you just need to make a harness from the aftermarket ballast going to your original car's power source to the original ballast

I've read on other forums that DDM kits are not very reliable. They dont use digital ballasts and its a hit and miss buying their kits ... I dunno if anybody here had any issue with these kits ... what could be another legit alternative ?

I have only one experience with ddm, and it was bad. A guy I work with wanted to upgrade his tahoe so I told him to use them and he ended up having to swap out 3 ballasts before they sent him a good one. Easy to deal with as far as the returns... absolutely, but product....not really a fan. I got some cheap ass ebay kit for my fogs and they are still going over a year later with no problems.

ok I'm about to put my order on DDM tuning site. I'm a bit confused as to which kit to chose. God help, I sound like a noob. 1st why those D2S/D2R kits cost 5 times more than the Raptor kit and whats there difference? 2nd, in the bulb type option of the raptor kit, what should I chose? our cars come with D2R so should I chose that or something else. All this is confusing me alot. I'm also getting a kit for my fogs, what bulb type should I chose for them ? 9006 ? and the HID harness, do i need it for any of them ?
