Question HID lights

hey whatsup? Wondering if anyone replace their fog lights with HID ones? I'm planning to buy the 6000K Philip kit and put the 6000K bulbs onto your headlights and use the kit and stock bulbs for the fogs. How is this sound? Are they direct fitment?

Do you have 02 TL???

I am not sure how the fog housing looks like, but if you thinking about putting HID bulb on fog, I think you do need major mod.

BTW, that sounds great if you can do it.

Jo whatsup.....yeah I have 2002 TLS.

TL stock headlights is 9006 type (HID). Fog is 9006 halogen type.
Now here is the plan. Buy a 6000K philip kit (2 d2r 6000K bulbs, ballast, starters etc)....put the 6000K bulbs in stock headlights like everyone else here did...use the stock HID bulbs, hook it up to the philip kit, then replace the 9006 halogen with that...should be a plug and play. Got it? Anyone did it yet? I guess not huh.
Cuz look man, 6000K itself is $290 already..say $300 shipped.
You can get 6000K and philip kit for $470 shipped...so another $170, you can get all your lights HID with 6000K color for your headlights...see my drift dawg???

Someone on this board has already done this. I forgot who tho. But they put 6000K in both the low beams and fogz. That shiet looks tite. No modding of the fogz were required, he just got the kit and plug and play.

TL headlights -> 9006 ?? I am not sure about that.

But I was thinking about same thing. I was going to buy 6000K kit and put bulb on my TL and give ballasts & ignitors to my bro's V6 Accord. But that didn't work out.

I dont even have a 2nd gen TL but I know for a fact that the HID lowbeams ARE NOT 9006, they are HID D2R. The halogen Hi-beams are 9005. The halogen foglights are 9006. The best way to get 6000K lowbeams and 6000K foglights is to get Philips Ultinon 6000K D2R bulbs which are direct replacement for the lowbeam bulbs and work with all the factory electronics, and buy a COMPLETE 6000K 9006 HID kit for the foglights. This should cost about $850 without installation.

I just finished putting the Philip 6000K bulb in stock location and stock bulb with Philip kit onto the stock foglights (2002 TL)..they are a DIRECT fit...plug and play.

The problem I found with this board is people don't know 1/2 of what they're talking about....and yes, they still talk...

So you bought a D2R 6000K kit with a set of ballast's and hareness'?

If yes, continue:

You swaped the stock Osram 4300K D2R with Phillips 6000K D2R?

If yes, continue:

You used the ballast's that came with the kit to power up the stock 4300K d2R's?

If yes, continue:

Now, all that makes sense because it will work.

My question is how these D2R bases are fitting into a 9006 base. They are different bases. Did you just push them on and they stayed on? Or was Crazy Glue involved?

I measured them and the D2R is aprox. 2.45 wide at the base and the 9006 is 2.0 on the same location.

96TL "knows" what he is talking about. His description is the correct way.

Let us know how the D2R bulbs "fit" into a 9006 light housing. That would save 3 bills from the main/fog all w/ HID set up.

Beam direction or path is off I suppose..

Here is a comparison shot;

Thanks. I messed around with HIDs alot on my car. If you try to mount the D2R bulb in the 9006 socket you'll get a bogus pattern. I already tried doing that to my friends GS and it didnt work out. Maybe if you cut the base off the 9006 bulb and modify the D2 bulb to fit that base, it might work if the filament lines up with the HID capsule. I would rather just buy a kit and save yourself the hassle.
