HID Kit
I need to replace one ballast since one was stolen.
What is the difference with D2r and D2S are they compatible or totally different?
Also I want to change both bulbs so that they match.
The stock ballast can handle up to 4100K is that right?
Would it look nicer if I decide to go with 6000K I know less visibility but I am seeking an intense blue color.
Any recommendations?
Help me out please?
What should I type in the Ebay search box?
Price?
Thanks everyone

www.suvlights.com will give you some info on the difference between D2R & D2S + price.
The stuck ballast CAN handle 4100K.
6000K look more blue in color but I don't know about the light projection, personally if the projection is less than the OEMs then I don't want them but like you said if intense blue is what you are looking for then 6000K is the ticket.
Also just to note that 6000K is NOT legal, for your info.
I think that we have a few people around here with 6000K so they can tell you better about the light projection etc. Good luck.

I have the Phillips D2S 6000K in my TL-S. There is no need to change the ballast or the socket. I have had them for about a year with no problems at all. If you end up with the D2S bulbs, you do need to make a slight modification to the plastic base of the bulb in order for it to fit properly in the housing. If you do a search, you should be able to find it. It's only a matter of making a small notch.
As far as visibility, people say there is approx. 10% less with the 6000K. Honestly to me, 10% is barely noticeable. The 6000K are not really an intense blue, more like a brighter white. Kind of looks like the 4100K when they are first turned on. I love the color of the 6000K and have no regrets.
I have heard that the sale of HID kits are now illegal, but I don't know if that applies to buying bulbs too for an already existing HID setup. Anyways, I just bought a 6000K HID kit for my g/f's RSX from autolamps-online.com about 2 weeks ago. No problems, no hassle.
Hope this helps.

Get an factory ballast if you want to go with 6000K bulbs. If you want something like 8000K you might have to get a different ballast, note that with 8000K you probably won't see a damn thing (especially when it rains) and it will be a cop magnet.
Bottom line get the 6000K bulbs for your factory ballasts. They have a ballast over at suvlights.com get the one with the D2 connector.
Our stock bulbs are D2R, the D2S produces more of a glare (since they're meant for projectory housing, while the D2R are for reflector housing - what we have on our cars).

First off, I have a 99 TL. Our cars (99+) uses D2R for our HIDs. FYI, D2R are used in cars with reflector lenses and the D2S are used in projector lenses. Also, our stock ballast can handle up to 6000K HIDs. Anything higher you will have to get a stronger ballast. BTW, our stock HIDs will give you the most visible light output meaning a whiter look. The 6000K will give you more of a bluish-white light. IMO, the 6000K looks great and it lights up the road just fine for me plus it looks 100X better.
Here is an old comparison pic of a stock HID (4200K D2R) vs. mine (6000K D2S):
Disclaimer: Sorry Steven I had to use that pic again.

In order to use the D2S bulb in our cars, you will need to do a little modification to make it fit. Here is a pic to make it easier to understand (thanks to Paul):
The pic you are looking at is of a D2S bulb. Notice the little indentation on the right hand side (big red circle). Well you will need a dremel tool to make the same indentation on the left hand side (where the small red arrow is).
IMO, don't get anything above 6000K cause you will not be able to see very well on the road. The higher you go the less light ouput there will be.

I need D2R set of bulbs 6000K for a 99TL what color would this set up produce?
I want a intense blue hue.
Do you have a ballast?
They stole only one headlight what would be missing exactly beside ballast bulb and housing?
Thanks
Pleas e-mail me at:

FWIW, The D2S 6000K bulb will look bluer in a 99-01 TL as compared to a TL-S. I guess the diffuser makes the difference.
IOW, 6000K D2S bulb in a 99-01 TL will be bluer (and better looking ) than a 6000K D2S bulb in a 02+ TL and TL-S.:p

If this is true someone please confirm and let me know.
I plan on geting one ballast but having trouble finding one so I might get a new set instead.
If I got the D2S 6000k bulb with new ballast would it offer less visibilty compared to D2R?
Thnanks
