HID Fog Light Question

first i installed the HID kit about 8-9 years ago and the fog light MOD.to turn on without the headlights and had no problems i had to replace the bulbs in that time which is not the problem but now i having this problem one light was out so i changed the bulbs and still no good so i tried the the bulb on the other side and it worked so i checked the wiring and all good so i changed the ballast and it worked the a few days later same thing then it was good for months but now it happens on both sides one might be on then i hit the switch a few times and they both are on or the other side goes out and the other one comes on but all the wires are good but the weather is very cold now but it been cold the last 9 years or can it be the switch any suggestions

are we talking about the HID low beams acting up?
Did you replace them before as a kit- new aftermarket ballast 9 years ago?
If not, its time for that
Used OE parts are not worth the effort to install
Bulbs can be picky abut what ballast and igniter system they like

what you describe is usually the ballast system but in rare cases- one recently- that it was the turn signal stalk aka headlight switch
a replacement from the junkyard did the trick for that ziner

Punctuation would do you wonders OP.

Did you use a relay harness when you installed the Fogs? Sounds like your relay is going bad (potentially due to weather or moisture) I would get a new relay and try it out. ALso check all your grounds.

01tl4tl I think he's referring to an actual fogs

I just realized that reading the full title would have clued me in! D'oh
Long time readers will recall- I don't like to wear my glasses at the computer

so fog conversion to HID ok I got it now
Back to theory of the switch for low beams failing, assuming fogs are correctly powered by the low beam circuit

BUT OP whats that about you pulled the fuse and fogs remained on?
Thinking the battery will survive the night with fogs or lows on was a no brainer = failure idea
Its dead-dead now and will take a charge from a real battery charger- not just jump start the car- which will kill the alternator from being overworked

9 years on a kit is a long time, if its not the ign switch or the headlight switch, get another HID fog kit, now they are only 60- 100 dollars for everything!

I dont know if I explain the problem right. First i installed the HID kit and MOD for the fog lights so i can turn them on without using the headlights about 9 years ago now one fog light would come on then some times the other side would work and not work but never notice both being out at the same time but when one is out and i hit the switch off and on the light would come back on and some times the other side would go out it's crazy but not every time this happens it just started a few months ago also I have changed the ballast on one side so i don't think it's the ballast

I think its ignitor or ballast combo issue
when one has a problem it effects the system

I would go with a new `kit` from HID Kits | Conversion Kits | Xenon Headlights | HIDeXtra or from morimoto
technology has come a long way in a decade!!

yeah, only replacing one side can really mess you up- the HID electrical needs are very specific on resistance etc

you revisited all ground wires- the small ones on frame and main battery cables
A ziner recently found main neg cable loose in its connector to frame- under battery (was that you?)
