Youre right. 9006 is for the fogs. Alot of people here have done the D2R s in the fogs, thats when you have to custom fit.

You want D2R bulbs that have been rebased to fit the 9006 housing. The D2R bulbs are made for the reflector housings in the foglights. The 9006 base is only how the bulb is held within the housing. You can either go with a kit with D2Rs that have already been rebased for 9006 housings or an OEM D2R bulb, which would need to be rebased to fit the 9006. If you buy a 9006-rebased D2R rebased 9006, it will be plug and play, although some people also put in a headlight relay system to protect the stock wiring.

I picked up a set of barely used Xtec kit from one of the board for around $200. They have lifetime warranty on the bulbs and ballasts. A lot of Beammers are using this set.

I saw a new set for $320 at understeer.com.

You should make sure the kit is D2R because the light pattern won't be right with D2S. My guess is one kit is D2S and the other is D2R, and they're just being lazy about listing all the info about the kits. Call or email them.
