Question hid fails to work at times

im having problems with my driver side headlight i swapped the bulbs about a year ago for 8000k kept the stock ballast but recently my driver side hid doesnt turn on at times and at the times it doesnt work i flick the lights on and off couple times and they start working fine

just wondering what it could be the ballast or the igniter and which part is the igniter is it the connector that goes on the back of the bulb

Possibly water got into the ballast or igniter and is causing a short, can possibly lead to permanent damage. You should take off the headlight and examine the components to check for damage. The igniter is the black thing going to the bulb. CHeck the DIY section for instructions to take the headlight off. You'll need a ratchet, an extension(maybe 8"), 10mm socket, small wrench, and screwdriver to complete the job.

you need to find out if its a bulb issue
Swap them left to right and see if the issue follows the bulb
Or
Is there condensation INSIDE the lens of the headlight housing?
If so, that drips out the hole on the bottem of light area and directly onto the ballast,,,shorting it out

bulbs should be replaced in pairs- if one goes the other isnt far behind
You may consider a lower kelvin rating so you can actualy see with the headlights~
stock color is 4300,,many prefer 5000 or even 6000 but no higher and still use them to see by

My friend has 8000K and hates it because he can't see ish when it rains.

So changed out his headlights and fogs from 8000K to 5000K and 3000K it looks official.

To each their own though.

they look cool but the actual amount if light you can see the road with is substanially reduced once you go above 6000
If you dont drive at night and do run headlights during the day---you are set~
