Sounds like a bulb, But you can test this by taking the bulbs and switching them around. If the same thing happens on the other side its the bulb, if not and it still happens on the same side its the balast/ignitor

Can the light output of HID bulbs drop as they age?

On my 1999 TL the light output seems dimmer than I would expect. And they almost seem to have a purple/reddish color.

My high beam halogens seem blazingly bright relative to my HID low beams.

And can anyone offer any tips for finding a reasonably priced set of quality 4300K bulbs. Should I stick to Philips-made bulbs? Has anyone had any luck with eBay purchases?

In case you didn't know this already, be sure not to touch the bulbs directly since the oil from your skin can cause them to fail.

Yes as they age they start to go do a different k. Mine are originals and are starting to look like standard halogens. Ill get around to getting new ones this winter with my next project
