Cool hi new here, ? about 2002 console

Hi guys I have been lurking for a while. I have a Premium 02 Fire pearl red ( no mods) I love the car( my old car I still have it actually is a maxima SE 1995 I also have a twin turbo 93.5 supra)

I have been surprised considering the reputation of Acura how many small stupid problems the car has on delivery. I just noticed that the console won't stay shut ... there is a small latch which goes into a empty hole and it keeps slipping off, is there suppose to some sort of retainer in that hole? Does any body else have a similar problem and has Acura quality control been slipping? Respect to all DZ

WELCOME!! Glad you decided to join in.

You mean the armrest console? That latch is pure plastic - mine did the same thing. Just push that latch in a little to bend it so it stays closed. If it bugs you too much get it fixed at the dealer. Guess they had to cut corners somewhere?

BTW - SNooK will love your Supra. Got any pics?

One of my rather impulsive friends tried to open the center console by pulling it straight up without using the tab. When that didn't work, he yanked even harder until it opened with a pop! Thank goodness those plastic tabs flex so much, or I'd be on my way to the dealer's to get them replaced!

Yeah, he's pretty thick-headed that way.

I had the same problem. It would keep popping open by itself while I was driving. I took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. Now it only opens when I pull the tab up.

I was a little disappointed in Acura.

I agree about the disappointment what did thye do to fix it I ask becasue it is a long drive to the dealer and if I can fix myself that would be preferable. DZ

I never had this problem in my '00 TL, but my TLS has it. I have already had it into the dealer once. Their fix lasted about 2 days. Now it is worse than ever - I think I have bent the little plastic tab back so many times that it is totally screwed up, and it doesn't close at all.

I am out of town right now, but as soon as I get back next week, I need to get my 3750 mile service done. I am going to give them one more chance to adjust the console, and if it doesn't close as tightly as my '00 did, then I am going to ask them to replace the whole lid.

I would find this silly little defect infuriating in a cheaper car but explainable in a lux car brand like acura it is completly unacceptable. DZ

Yup, there's a problem that has started to develop with that console, check by your dealer, I believe there is a fix on that. My dealer had a launch party for the RSX last night and the service manager said that's one of the things they've noticed lately he believes it may be heat related in some of the cases.... Check with your dealer, tell them it's unacceptable, they'll fix it for you. If they won't, go to Acura's website and find a Precision dealer (like mine), they'll fix it for you without a doubt.

3750, check with your dealer first..... Acura is very strongly recommending that the customer keep the break in oil in until 7500 miles or 6 months, even under very harsh driving conditions. I'd wait if I were you.
