Hi beams always on???
Hi beams always on???
So i bought a 2002 TL Type S and the driver side headlight got some condensation and eventually blew the ballast. So i ordered a kit from hidextra for my car. Although now randomly the hi beams will turn on and just stay like half way lit while driving. Then flicker on and off. Then randomly turn off lol. Its quite odd. When i flick my hi beams my passenger side works fine but driver side( also low beam out on that side) doesnt turn on but stays half way lit. To top it off my hi beam indicator is ever so slightly illuminated, but when i flick the hi beams on, it does not illuminate at all. Its seems like a grounding problem? Also when the driver side blew i heard a buzzing sound lol. Any help greatly appreciated. I looked around the forums i couldnt find much info on this specific problem. Also if anyone knows a shop in san diego county they use let me know. Or a meet up

Not that i know of. Lights only come on when i turn them on. The high beams also only "turn on" slightly when i turn the low beams on.T9he driver side doesnt turn on when i click it but passenger does. The brights just light up about half way when its off.
Brights only light up when i turn on normal lights sorry for that last sentence im on my phone.
Update
So now i noticed bumps and accelerating make the light on the dash light up more. When i stop it goes away mostly. But when i turn on my brights, my driver side turns off completely and when i turn off hi beams it goes back to low lit on both sides.
start with the main ground wire from battery to its point under the battery tray
One ziner found it barely connected recently!! as in the clamp part holding cable to its mounting tab- end, was not keeping ground wire solidly connected
there are several -5 iirc- smaller braided wire grounds from engine to frame.
the ground wire that attaches to trans is another good suspect
beyond that I would guess at turn signal stalk/ headlight switch (available as separate piece)
One of those was also reported failed recently,,its contacts being worn out would explain the headlights actions
Where did you mount the new ballast?

based on your dash lights I would look at the grounds as I said before
and the turn signal/headlight switch itself
Those do get used occasionally~
also test the starter draw and alternator output.
Did you mention recent/new battery before? trust nothing, clean all contacts and test!
on the small braided grounds (any grounds in the car) = remove and sandpaper/dremel the surface and contact plate for best grounding

So i got my headlight off. HUGE puddle of water... ballast was submerged lol. Dried it out. Checked the seal with a vaccum and its air tight now. Anyone know a link for diy on 02 tl hid install? I might just do it myself if its not to hard considering i got the headlight off :p. I looked around i couldnt find a picture one. Also i pulled one of the main grounds directly from the negative terminal to the top of the headlight and cleaned it lightly because it was late and dark lol. But that seemed to have fixed my hi beams coming on. Now when i flick the high beams, only the passenger comes on and off. But still no dash light. To top it off my driver side fog light housing had a hole in it like a rock smashed it. Yet they work fine. Last note, the fog beams used to flicker when i turned them on after a while; as well as the dash light on the fog button. But they dont seem to be acting up. There was some good rain when this all happened. id say it was a grounding issue. Im going to be cleaning my grounds soon regardless.
there are reports of ground wires being bad inside- corrosion eats all!
Time for new ones, be it kit, diy or upgraded racer style
look in the thread titles for hidextra install clean, and in the diy threads and linked you- tube viewing
Mount the ballast outside the engine area in space at top of exposed fender inner portion= see pics

which fuses?
did someone tap into a circuit and up the amps to cover the extra load?
or is there a problem in the circuit causing it to blow 15 amp fuse?
HID lighting fuses and relays are left alone for the `kit` installation
All you are doing is dropping in new parts for old, not converting anything
Same power source runs the new ballast- you clip the connector off to ballast and install new spade bit connector- clip old wire to new!

Like you my ballast went out due to condensation in the headlight. I had to replace the lens, the ballast and the ignitor. Besides the headlight not working I also had the light turn on but it would flicker. I would try the fuse first and if that doesn't work. You might need a different ballast
