help wiht polishing calipers

i have two rear calipers off of my wrecked TL-P. and they have been sitting around for the last year and i want to polish them. they have a lot of surface rust that i took off and cleaned all the bolts and metal clip like springs that hold the pads in.
now ive been using a dremal to get inside the small curves, does anyone know an easy way of polishing them? also what do i have to do to them once they are all polished, do i have to spray something on them to keep the rust off?

Yeah, get some brake cleaner from the parts house, an old tooth brush, and a rag. Your good to go.

what nsxnext said... Thats what i did with my old calipers and brackets, i sandblasted them, then powdercoated them. Much better protection than just paint.

It might be as easy to swap them for rebuilt calipers that have already been cleaned up, painted, and have new seals.

make sure the inner cylinder and piston edges are perfect- otherwise toss those calipers.
- use them as cores for good rebuilt units-
yes rebuilts are 100 bucks a side for the back- I cant expalin why they cost more than the fronts,,,but they will arrive ready to add some paint and install

For all the effort--- if your existing ones are working just clean and paint them
No one can get close enough to see the painting job with the wheels on anyway~
Its just a basic coverup

it's your car, but i would trade those things in for rebuilt - that way you're not replacing them in 6 months due to a sticking caliper - if that's on the outside, imagine what's on the inside.

good deal for you then! without that explanation, they looked like dead players the junkyard paid YOU 5 dollars to take off their hands!!!

I dont see Legend 2 piston calipers on your sig?-
either rebuild your fronts with a seal kit- 20 bucks from honda,
or upgrade the fronts to the 2 piston calipers for 73$ each (same price as TL calipers)- and many of us are at cars age for needing replacements-
the rubber orings only last so long and every time you push the brake- seals move and must hold back substantial hydraulic fluid pressures or no brakes!!

You have a lot of power making mods, what about stopping it when you need too!

hey raj- buy new pad slider clips- the ones that fit onto the mounting bracket, and the pads end tabs slide on them when the brakes are applied and released. goldish color

Must be clean on the brackets part, so no uneven surface, and the bracket and pad tab itself get a dab of synthetic caliper grease
Amazing how much noise and wierdness is gone by following the directons and actually replacing 4, $4 brake hardware parts
thats my opinion

The crud we mean in brake fluid is microscopic sized rust paticles, and fluid discoloration from fluid and age

If its anything but clear brand new fluid- its due for replacement
Make sure you flush the brake fluid once a year from now on - to prevent problems and maintain that good pedal feel.
Mushy pedal is often fluid- (google hygroscopic) The absorbed moisture can be compressed, while brake fluid cant, it only moves back and forth--so the moisture is the mush

OP used his own calipers
The rest of us buy rebuilts from name brand store- You can't buy them brand new.
Gen2 can upgrade to dual piston front calipers of 1995 Legend LS-C, for same price as TL calipers!
fronts 75 each, rears 90 each rebuilt price

2 primer, 3 paint (light, medium, than heavy), and 3 clear coats. no chips, or any signs of heat damage (and my brakes take a pounding every time i drive the TL-S)

o and i used the 500 degree paint
