Help!! Very expensive headlight fix.. :-(

Well my driver headlight bulb has recently blown and I figured this a great opportunity to upgrade from my stock bulbs to the 6000k philips bulbs. I looked up a DIY to replace the bulbs and was on my way to replacing until I ran into an issue with a worn down torx screw head. I then went to the dealership and asked if anyone could help m with this issue. They took my car in and charged 40 bucks to replace both bulbs which was not that bad. While waiting for 2 hrs I started to worry that something else was an issue or these guys just work slow as hell. Come to find out I have a bad inverter which caused the igniter to go which caused the bulb to shatter.. not blow.. shatter... :-(... The estimated fix at the dealer was 550.00(+) for parts and 150.00(+) for labor. Can someone please help me find a cheaper fix or is this the best way to go?

Depending on how long you plan on keeping the car it might be a better choice to get a new ballast/igniter set. In fact, after a quick search on ebay I found the combo for $120 shipped

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand...Q5fAccessories

I dunno how it is 99-00 TL's but on 01+ these things are guaranteed to leak and die so buying used seems like a waste of money.

my ballast went out and instead of going on ebay to spend 100+ or dealer/junkyard, I just bought a generic hid kit for $70, good to go now. Not including they are weatherproof, unlike my 02's. Just a suggestion

thanks for the advice.. I have spent all day trying to figure out a possible fix.. I think my best bet may be ebay because the junk yards in my area are shot. If there is anyone in the NYC or ALbany area or anywhere between who has these parts or knows where i can get them( at reasonable price) can you please let me know.. Thanks.. guess its back to trying to figure this out.. :-(

Just another quick thought.. i am considering going aftermarket, but am worried about losing OEM quality in the car.. Will going aftermarket hid system decline the moral value of thew car? and will i need to replace both the passanger side which is fine as well as the driver side which is the issue.???

buy the parts yourself. check ebay, you can get it for half the price the stealership is trying to charge and install the parts yourself. then spend the money you saved on a new mod

I am on the same boat as Mack. The problem with DIY is just to damn cold here in the East. The stealer and acura is just not being reasonable with the replacement method. I am waiting for the weather to get warmer. Someone here should start a business just replace light bulb/ballast for Acura. Anyone? May be camy?

Any of you notice that when your xenon lamp went out that the running lights went dim, as in so dim that the light was yellowy? When I say running lights I mean those lamps you can readily see located just inside of the xenon ones.

I know a good spot in bk that will do aftermarket xenons for like $150. Its called Almax and its located on stillwell and neptune avenue. I go to them for all my service. You can easily sell your with the aftermarket HIDs and noone would know.

it is actually better to go aftermarket because 1, its cheaper. and 2, it may last longer... i should have gotten aftermarket over the summer when one of my inverters died on me...

those r the highbeams. They dim so that u can use them as a normal headlight temporarily when the hid goes out

Yeah, except you'll be blinding everyone who's driving toward you.

Its not so much about the brightness as it is about the angle. Regular headlights are pointed down to keep them from blasting in peoples eyes, high beams are pointed dead ahead so even if they are dim they still product a lot of glare.
