HELP: Tranny Replacement

I have been reading these message boards for quite some time. I bought a 03 acura Type-S over a year ago, no problems till this week. Tranmission started slipping, hard downshifts, blinking R5, etc. The car has 67k miles on it, took it to the acura dealership and they said my VIN isn't covered under extended warranty. Anyone else have this problem? If so, I would like advice on what I should do to get some kind of reimbursment from acura. Thanks.

1st: Try another dealership for "good will" coverage....

2nd: Buy extended warranty ASAP as the price for that is way cheaper than $5K for an rebuilt tranny......

Good luck !

Thanks for info...unfortunately I don't think car will make it to another dealership (its in real bad shape). I guess i'm stuck with a 5k bill...that's great. First car I bought that isn't american, I thought would be reliable.......last time i'll go with acura.

Cool

Dumstead:
Hang tight. Call Honda Corporation in Southern California. Be firm and tell them this is your FIRST Honda product after owning American all your driving time. I don't know why it would NOT be covered to 100K. A 2003 should have an extended warranty to 100K I believe. Dont' let one dealership muster the water. Don't give up so easy ! Call the 1-800 number and give them your case.

My parents 6 year old Honda Accord tranny took at dump at 32,000 miles. The dealership tried to screw them with the same lame snitz they gave you. My father called me completely freaked out (75 years of age mind you) First Honda product they ever had and bought it brand new.....I called these folks in Southern California, one week later, the guy was fired at the dealership and my parents got a rebuilt tranny for ZERO Paid is full by Honda......

Don't let some slime bad dealership fook you around......

Why don't you buy an extended warranty for $1,700.00 from Tim at www.hond as opposed to bending over an giving that dealership $5000.00 plus for a tranny job ?

Called the dealer back, he is contacting honda again. I guess extended warranty only covered early 2003 models. Hopefully I will get better luck this time.

I'm guessing that they won't accept a warranty b/c i'll buy it knowingly I have a tranny problem.

Thanks for your feedback.

Ok, now your moving in the right direction. NOW call Corporate in Southern California and file a case with them. That way when your calls in they will be aware of your dissapointment. Dealership DON'T want you tranny job ! Honda wants to take of YOU ! GET IT ? Believe me the mechanic comes to work going another transmission job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CALL THEM NOW. Tell them what dealership you working with, give them the name of that person, file it now ! Keep me posted too !

Dealer talked to honda, honda is covering tranny even tough VIN did not fall under extended warranty They also are covering a loaner car (although it is pos taurus, wished it was 05 acura). I'm extremely pleased that honda is covering this although I talked to my cable guy yesterday and he has had two tranny's go out in his 02 acura!!!

Good to hear honda is putting in a tranny for you. I don't see how honda would deny late 03 owners when this has been a big problem for honda trannies. Especially the TL. I think the dealers just say it is not covered without actually contacting honda, seeing who will bite at the $5000 repair bill. Knowing full when honda would cover the tranny even on late 03's. Scumbag dealers.

Notice the word again in dumstead's message? Means the dealer had already called Honda before. So, not only did the dealer 'actually' contact Honda, they contacted them more than once.

Hardly the conduct of a 'scumbag dealer'.

You are correct, knowledge is power. It was good to know of all the problems everyone else has had. I'm just glad it is covered!!! If it were GM, probably wouldn't have been.

If nothing works out, take it to a regular Transmission place and get it rebuilt with hardcore clutch paks and superman parts for less than half the price.
