Help with the Ticket

I have a ticket one month ago for not full stop at the stop sign. I kept waiting for the court to send me the notice or a fine, but I haven't receive it yet. I try to call the court and they have the computer thing to let you check the status of your ticket. They search and search, and they can't find my ticket number in their system. What should I do? Should I go to court and talk to those people in there. I look at the back of the ticket they say if you don't show up at the date that the cop write on your ticket, they will put you as misdemeanor or a 1000 dollars fine and 6 months in jail and hold your driver lincence for a year. What should I do?

Im not sure if CA is any different, but here in NJ, when the cop give you a ticket, they also put in the date to appear in court.

over here too, but they also send you a courtesy notice on how much the fine is and what time and date for you to appear in the court. I haven't receive that yet and the court date is almost here. That is why I am kinda nervous of what I should do.

You said it right there - courtesy notice. You need to show up in court. The date on the ticket is what matters, unless you get an extension. If it is a municipal court, you will probably go plead guilty / not guilty, and then get your date set. If it is mayors court, well just take a jar of KY jelly, and practice bending over (they are/were trying to ban these in Ohio).

Not sure what you should do, but in any case, don't just forget about it and assumed it was lost in the computer. Because it will show back up just as mysteriously as it disappeared at the most inconvenience time.

failure to stop at the stop sign does not require u to come to court. I had the same ticket a while back and its 55 bucks. The cops dont tell you that, but if you look at the back of the ticket it has a fine listing. I dont exactly remember how theey qualify a stop sign ticket... but all I did was send a payment for 55 bucks and I got 2 points on my licence. I live in NYC so I dont know how many points you get where you live.. but the payment is listed on the back of the ticket. IF more than a month past u owe them an extra 10 bucks. NY state has a DMV site where you can go, type in the ticket number and see exactly whats going on with it. Im sure your state has the same. IF the ticket is not listed there.. dont pay it. Find out if your licence got the 2 points. If it didnt, then the ticket is lost. If more than two month have passed and you did not recieve any notice that you are late with the payment and ur licence is still clear. forget all about it.

Did you get a ticket (physical paper document) or did you get a verbal warning. If you have a ticket, what is the ticket number? (Usually top right, in red) Read the back of your ticket. What does it say?

If you got a court date on your ticket, you are required to show face. So regardless if the ticket is in the system or not, I would show up and see what happens. Who knows, maybe the ticket is lost and they won't even call your name! But surely you don't want a bench warrant or summons for your arrest for failare to appear....

California laws

Ok, I live in CA too, so I am semi-familiar with the laws of this state regarding tickets.

First of all, there should be a ticket number on the ticket that the officer gave you and you should be able to call the court and request information on your citation by giving them the number.

Depending on your area, they may or may not send you a courtesy notice in the mail reminding you of your citation. They are not required to send this notice.

You are required to pay the fine by the appointed court date. You may elect to not appear in court and just pay the fine, but you will get points on your driving record. Alternatively, you may elect to contest the citation in court and get the fine refunded to you if you win the case.

If you have not had another moving violation dismissed by traffic school within the past 18 months, you may take a traffic school course and the citation will not be counted against you on your driving record. However, you will still need to pay for the fine and you will need to pay for the traffic school fees. If you do this option, I would recommend doing an online traffic school. It's relatively painless and easy.

I know all this because I recently got my first ticket ever in all my years of driving. I made a left turn where I wasn't supposed to at 11PM at night with no traffic around the place, and a cop was hiding there just for someone like me to make that turn. He says people do that all the time at that spot and he hides there and loves giving tickets for it. What a %$$&^##$#%!

The info on your ticket is always correct, if it's not, they will tell you when you get to court and point you in the right direction. So just go there on your court date. The courtesy notice just tells you the same info on your ticket anyway, and if you wanted to pay the fine by mail BEFORE the court date. If you have not taken defensive driving in the last year, you should take that so the ticket would not be on your record. Do it online.

I hardly ever get tickets til I got my TL, I got 2 with it so far. My second ticket I got was on the way back from court for the first ticket. Does that suck or what. And since I took defensive driving for the first, I can't for the second.
