Question HELP: Right way to put decals?

What is the right way to put the decals to the car? I just added 2 Eibach decals to the side skirts but it took me a long ass time because the stupid things would not stick properly. I used water with some dish soap. I added water to the surface and water to the sticker, then I put it on and used a card to get rid of excess water and let dry for a short time. The letters kept coming off and stuff. Anyways, what's the right way to do it?

dont use water and soap. just apply them. they are small enough that you dont need water and soap.

Apply them dry on a dry surface? What if there are bubbles underneath the letters, then I won't be able to squeeze them out if its dry.
