Help: Engine codes: P1457 ans P1676

2001 TL

While driving home on a flat and level piece of highway my engine light went on.

Having an OBD-2 Scanner, I hooked her up and got codes P1457 and p1676.

I dread that I may have logged some powertrain codes on the transmission.
I have had ZERO noticable drivability problems.

Does anyone out there have a list of the trouble codes for the 2001 TL (non S-type). I have yet to get a manual for this car.

I wish to go to the dealer armed with as much infromation as possible.

FWIW this scanner paid for itself many times over by way of an unscroupulous Toyota dealer that tried to charge me many hundreds of dolars for a simple O2 Sensor failure. The scan code showed me what part to replace for less than a hundred dollars.

Thanks much!

Also, does anyone know the proceedure to clear the "ENGINE" light. For all I know
it is a transient fault (although I believe OBD-2 is smart enough to log and ignore
transient faults and report failure after at least 3 transients).

According to the Helms manual:

DTC P1457: EVAP Control System Leakage (EVAP canister system)
DTC P1676: FPTDR Signal Line Malfunction

I know nothing about fixing cars... I just have the Helms manual and brother who works on Jeeps.

To all: If you have (or have access to) a scanner they usually can send a command
to clear the diagnostic trouble codes. It is a standard with OBD-2 systems. This is
particularly useful to check for persistent problems. OBD-2 usually applied logic that
will look for certain types of problems occuring N number of times before signaling a
fault (and turning on the check engine light) but I don't know if it does this with all
problems. I know it does with the O2 sensor but who knows witht he EVAP systrem.
So, I've cleared the codes and am waiting to see of the light comes back on within
the next few days.

Meanwhile I also notice a "pending" code stored in the system of P1399, whatever
that means (manufacturer specific code). Guess I'll have to wait for my Helm books
to arrive.

Be careful if you pull the battery cable to reset the codes as this will activate the
radio security lockout.
