HELP! Advice Needed

Earlier today as I was driving to Sears to buy myself a George Forman's grill (these grills are so awesome!) I saw a yellow light and I didn't even sweat passing it because I learned that in traffic school, as long as you can make it before it turns red, you're okay.

So I'm passing by like every other day I make it before it turns red, it's not my fault because I wasn't speeding or even accelerating through the light.

Anyway, so I see these flashes and I'm like, oh great.

My question would be in Southern California, Pasadena I know the ticket mailed to me will result in a hefty $300 someodd fine, but will I be get a point nailed on my record?

I have researched on this forum and some say that there is no point just a fine while my friend who lives in Fullerton, Orange County personally speak to an officer and said it is a fine + point for moving violation...

Can someone please clarify the situation? Thanks in advance!

Not sure if the same rule applies, but in NYC there are no points when the camera catches you running the red light.

Sorry to hear that, Steve.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it's red light violation and consider as moving violation & 1 driving point. It will stay on your driving record for 3 years. You have option to go to traffic school though (unless you had traffic school with in 18 months). If you attend the traffic school, you record will be cleared right away(no point).

The court will send you an violation notice and it should say how much is the fine and information about traffic school if you're eligible. Or you can always go to the court traffic division says on your ticket, and obtain information from there. Good luck.

Oh!!! You mean camera flash up on the signal pole. I thought you actually got pulled over by the police.

If that's the case, it seems like your driving record wouldnot be affective since there's no way to prove who was driving the vehicle.

Wow. A red light violation is only 1 point in Cali. It's 3 points in NYC.

They have different point systems in different states. NY is different from NJ (some points do transfer though). You don't get any points if it's a camera just like songoku said, since they can't prove who was driving the car.
