Headlight Theft

2 nights ago my headlights got torn out of the front of my 02 TL. they peeled the corner of the fenders back like they took a can opener to them. $2500 in damage. anyone hear of this before, and if so anyone know of an alarm system that can deter this from happening?

This is actually a very common theft. The TL headlights and the associated hardware are incredibly expensive through Acura. This has created a self-sustaining market for stolen headlights.

where are you located, and try adding a shock sensor to your factory alarm to start.

Unfotunately its a common problem on the TL/CL, and some lexus models like the RX. No alarm system can prevent the theft since the damage is done by the time the alarm goes off, but if you get an alarm with a prominent LED, thieves may pass up on your car, and go for someone elses next time.

The problem is the thieves know the factory alarm wont go off from this kind of theft since it doesn't have a shock sensor. Install either the shock sensor, an alarm, and try to park in well lit, high foot traffic areas.

There was another thread about this recently. I work at a Nissan dealership and Altimas and Maximas come in almost everyday with missing headlights. It seems that these thieves have a special tool for the headlight removal. $600 plus per headlight is not something everybody wants to pay but you cant drive without lights. Ouch!

Dude, headlights are more then 30 bones. Besides the headlight ballast is where most of the money goes. Those things cost a grip.

I agree. The headlights for my 10 year old car are almost $500.00 a piece. $30 wouldn't be worth the trouble. I too, am sorry that this has happened. I hate it when people take or damage something that you have worked to attain. How did your insurance handle it? I would think that this would be something that would be covered with at least a reduced deductible. i.e., (hit and run, or hitting a deer)
