Headlight cut out (and then came back on two weeks later)
Has anyone experienced this. My driver's headlight went out. I thought the headlight bulb had died since it's a 2002 with about 60K miles, so I went out and bought a new pair. Then about two weeks later, the headlight started working fine again. Now, I'm nervous that that it will cut out again, even if I replace the bulbs.

Bulbs will give a pink tint when turned on when they near wearout time
swap the stock bulbs left to right and see if the same one goes out
Make sure you have the correct new bulbs- you dont get these at zone for 10 bucks !
If there is moisture inside the lens of the headlight- thats your first problem, the water drips down and out a hole right onto the ballast- causes it to fry

unlikely but anything is possible
Best to swap the bulbs side to side and see if same side goes out again
You may not notice the pink tint unless pointed at garage when turning lights on,,wont see it on the road
easy to pull the bumper cover and both housings, inspect all the wires and parts- swap bulbs or install new bulbs and try it
It the right age for needing bulbs
If it was a ballast it would be dead by now
what brand and type bulbs did you buy?

From: The grande.. Riverdale NJ.. Hopefully moving to skyline village in Lincoln park NJ..yes dirty jersey
UNfortunatly it is NOT the bulbs its the Ballasts..
I had my headlight flicker and go off and stay off for like 4-5 months and then gave me no problems for 6 months to just start flickering and then would not come on at all..
I bought 2 new bulbs and then it worked for 2 days and then went off so the new bulbs did not help. replaced the ballast and its all good.
In the almost 10 years I had this car i went through 3 ballasts BUT when I first got my car I used the HID's as daytime running lights for 3-4 years. The bulbs lasts longer then the ballasts.

if its ballast- as those with actual failure experience say- then I would definetly look for moisture behind the headlight lens as a cause...has ruined many ballast- look for a ballast in the auto recyclers (junkyard)
pretty common problem with the moisture- pita DIY to open and reseal the housing- (unless someone has a new way)... or sometimes find them on the bay

Thanks for the help guys!! I actually posted a thread about buying Ebay bulbs a couple of weeks ago (when my light first went out). So, I bought a pair of bay bulbs (6000's) for $30/pair, but I haven't put them in yet. I think my plan is to see if the original light goes out again. Then I'll put the bay bulbs in and see if it's the bulbs or the balast. Really hoping it's not the balast, but it sounds like it might be. This car's going to paid off in two months, so I'd like to keep it for a little while. I had a dream last night that my tranny went out again going down I95 (it went out on my wife on I95 the first time). Hope all is well now with the updated tranny, but clearly my mind does not think so.
