Headlight clearing question

my buddy cleared his headlights on his audi and instead of baking the light and having to reseal it he took a flat head screw driver and broke the refelecter into pieces then they just fell out one of the light bulb holes, anyone try this before?

I have done it on B6 A4's a lot. We used a tiny drill bit then sealed it with silicone. I havent looked at our cars headlight to see if it would work but I will later when it comes back from the transmission shop and let you know.

Resealing has never been a problem with all the headlights I have done. Just using a dremel to exactly drill out the little tab was annoying and took a lot of time.

that could actually work but you'd have to break the whole reflector into tiny pieces because i dont remember the hole being that big.. i wouldn't try it, baking the headlights isn't as hard as you think

you only bake it for a short time to heat up the adhesive so you can pry the two pieces of the headlight apart and get inside to pop out the reflector

basically u take ur headlight off ur car and place it on a wet towel in the oven and let it warm up enough to pry it apart...

you dont have to use a wet towel. but u put it in the over at around 225deg to 250deg for about 10-15 min and start prying the two halfs apart. unscrew to bolts that are holding the chrome piece in and take the reflector out then screw it back in. pop the two halfs in and bake it for around 10min to get the adhesive sticky and squeeze them together.

did it to mine and no leaks for about 5 months now.

i've heard of people smashing the amber in a Z4's headlight, but those headlights don't use silicone and it's a lot harder to open up. Just Nike it and bake 'em.

abptltypes02, I got an extra pair of casings if you want. The drivers-side is cleared+no fogging/moisture issues. The passenger-side's chrome trim (..on the inside of the casing) is trashed.. and you'll need another one. Its already cleared, so all you need is the new chrome piece. Lemme know if your interested in buying them..

the chrome trim piece is not trashed, its missing 2 small spots of chrome. if u want you cold black them out or color match them to your car. thats what im going to do with mine next year.

It really wasnt hard at all. I did it the first time I tried, by myself, and if I would have either dried the inside lenses a bit better or perhaps not chosen a rainy day to close them back up they would have been fine.

I recommend that you try it.... it will be fun
