Headlamps

I Replaced my Highbeams on the TL (which was a big bizoch to do). THe bulb where just Eurolite xenon 9005 65 watts same as factory spec. OK now my problem is for my sisters RSX i got some Supere Plazma xenon, hid wanna be's. They are 80 watts but the factorys are only 55 watts. Can this do any effect to the wiring.

read on the box and see if they really run at 80 watts or if they are 55watts that look like 80 watts cuz most of those fake bulbs say that they just look that bright

I've heard instances where the housing reflector/plastic "dulls" up because of the extra heat from 80W bulbs as well as the harness melted and shorted out. I would NOT go higher than stock rating for Halogen bulbs.

It's the brightness that make them look like they are 80 watts bulbs. If they use some special gas in the tube, they COULD simulate the color of HID, but not brightness. However, the power consumption is still the same.

i used 100 watt bulbs in my legend in both high n low beams but the stock wire's are not rated for that wattage nor is the socket...but they do sell a heavyduty wire harness kit for the highwattage bulbs...... http://jen.liu.tripod.com/suvlights/id14.html

Power is equal to voltage X current. Voltage is a constant (12volts) and current is dependent on the bulb you install. A 55w bulb draws approx 4.6 amps and our system including switches, wiring, relays, and even the light housings were designed to handle that amount of power and heat. When you put in a true 80 w bulb the current increases more than 40% to approx. 6.6 amps. I have no idea how much additional heat might be generated in the light housing though. Our system might be able to handle the increase but I would be afraid to chance it.

Being that the above post probably confused you more, let me explain it in a way that you will more easily understand.

Think of the 55watt bulb as a small engine and a 80 watt bulb as a big engine .

Becareful about using "japanese brand fake HID lights", they may or may not burn out your housing. I've had it happen so many times to my Maxima that I finally got pissed and switched back to stock. Out of all my friends, only one of them didn't burn their housing using these bulbs. If you want fake HIDs, get the PIAA brand. They are more expensive, but atleast you don't have to keep buying new housing.
