Header Noise

Ok, so I installed new headers a little while ago and ever since then I've had a vibrating noise coming from them. It only happens when I accelerate normally. But if I step on the gas or take off really slow it doesn't happen.

I checked all the bolts and made sure they are tight. I cranked on them hard as I could. So not sure where they could be leaking from. I did notice when I was installing them that they should of been about an inch longer cause I had a hard time getting it on the bolts to the cat.

BTW, they are JVT headers. I didn't use the gaskets that came with them for the engine, I used the original ones. But I did use the ones that came with them for the downpipe.

I haven't seen anybody else with these headers on the 2nd gen TL. So I'm wondering if the headers are just junk cause they don't fit right, or if there is anything I can do to fix the noise.

probably just resonance due to the thinner material used for the header. under a medium load the exhaust gasses pulse at just the right frequency to cause that, not much you can do about it. low or high loads the frequency is completely different and wont resonate with the header.

Check ur O2 sensor, make sure its tight and that the washer is rattling...mine is.

Thanks for the replies and welcomes.

Well everything is lined up right and tight so yeah it could be the flex pipe or just cheap headers. here are some pics I took after I installed them. Not sure what you can get from them though.

Its kinda hard to describe the sound, but it sounds like air is vibrating something. It only happens when I'm driving. If I have it in park I can try all day and it wont do it. I'm thinking its putting stress on the pipes that are already stressed from not being long enough.

When I installed them I had to leave all the bolts loose with only a few threads on the nuts, and pull the pipe over to the cat since it was too short to reach the bolts. I'm thinking it stretched out the flex pipes or something and I probably have a leak cause of it, idk. The more I think about it the more I think that's what happened. I might just take them off next weekend and put them back on to see if they still do it. I'm dreading that though since I think I rounded one of the nuts on the header in the rear.

Its probably the flex pipes. I wouldnt buy any thing with 2 of them. Thats how they get them to fit properly. Go to a exhaust shop and have them remove the front one. You may want to have the rear one replaced with a better one.

Any estimate on what that would cost? I don't want to spend much money on them since I didn't pay much. But if it fixes them it would be better than getting new ones I guess. Seems like its getting harder and harder to find good headers that aren't comptech. I don't know what ones I would get if I got new ones anyway.
