Question Header Install cost...

I am going to receive my headers tomorrow and I really want to get them installed quick. However, I am debating on whether I should take it to the dealer or someone else.

My question is, if you guys had someone install the headers for you, exactly how much and where did you take it to. For you guys that did the work yourself, how hard was the install and how long did it take.

I called the only Acura dealer in town and they quoted me $220 for the install. I am stressed out due to the fact that the headers alone cost so much, I am really reluctant to throw down another 2 bills for just the install. Thanks in advance guys.

By the way, I need to install new spark plugs and was wondering the cost on the install of those. I think I am going to do it by myself though.

Park ave acura charges the same amount for labor $220 for an install of headers on a tl or cl.

Given the work necessary to install headers, and the amount of labor hours needed to do it RIGHT, I would think that $220 installed from the DEALER would be an unbeatable oppurtunity. You might only be talking about a $50 difference if you go somewhere else. For that amount, I would not squabble about price and have the dealer do it. If something goes wrong down the line, the dealer wouldn't be able to give you a hard time because THEY put them in. I'd go with the people that know your car best - the dealer.

Why? You have a 2k TL and you needs plugs already? Those are one of the things they replace at your 100,000 mile service. What leads you to believe you need them?

Question

Dragon:

Just got back from Acura SouthWest in Houston. Talked to head service superviser about headers. I too will get them installed, but when i do i will do so with caution. Heres the deal: They haven't installed a header kit in about a year. Why? Because they have had problems with rattling noise coming from the header. Warranty work to repair this problem is done by Acura, but Acura contacts Comptech for the reimbursement. According to SW Acura, labor takes 2 hours for the install, according to Comptech, it should take 1 hour. So for them to fix/reinstall (if there is a prob) then you will have to pay the 1 hour difference (meaning if it takes them 2 hours to install, comptech will only reimburse for 1). I'm not saying this to discourage you, after taking the comptech brochure home (the guy at acura let me keep it), and talking with them, i think the 18 hp @ the wheel is worth it. to me, even a rattle won't stop me. our car rattles as it is. just something for you to bring up before you install. let them know about it. according to SW acura, it is common. This is all what they told me though, so don't quote me on it. FYI: they are charging 1150 for header, 25 for shipping, and 2 hours at 75 bucks (i think) so 150 for labor. I may consider getting it down by Carboy though. I will talk to Jackie over at Carboy he is a knowledeable guy. Good luck with that tell me what happens... peace.

FYI comptech has fixed the rattle problem. As long as you didn't purchase and 6 month old set or headers you will not have the problem.

So, you are saying that the header install only takes 2 hours? The dealership told me 3 hours. I just don't understand why it would take 3 hrs.

I have installed headers before on my Integra and it only took me like thirty minutes...

I understand that it was a four banger, but i really don't think that headers take 3 hours....

If you guys can give me some resources to where Comptech says the install only takes 1 or 2 hours, I would greatly appreciate it.

Anyways, about the install, Acura South West of houston told me it will take less than 2 hours, but i think the bastards always round up. now according to acura SW, they said that Comptech says that it should only take one hour. you can contact comptech, if you need the number i can get it for you. peace.

Guys- if you have any questions regarding Comptech parts prices or install times- you can go to the source: www.comptechusa.com
and get the info from the horses mouth. They post retail prices and suggested install times right there.

I called my acura dealership today and told them what the expected time allotted for installing headers by Comptech was, and they gave me the freakin run around about how the book time is this and how I can take it to Comptech to get it done.

They are just out to rip people off. So, frustrating....

i just did the install on my new iridium plugs, and the job is so easy.

The Honda engineers really designed the engine bay ergonomically.

If you guys do install new spark plugs, make sure and put some anti-seize compound on the threads of the plugs before the install. This will prevent any seizing of the plugs to the engine. Just a reminder...
