Question Have you had this problem

My car makes a rattling noise kinda like a heat shield problem. So I took it to the dealer and they said it wasn't the heat shield and/or exhaust syatem. They said it might be coming from my headers. They said the headers were tight and it could be the splitter in the header. Any ideas? I had an Acura mechanic put on my OBX headers. Now it does it at idle also.

I think its a problem with the headers. I think that the OBX headers are not a exact fit and they make some kind of noise and idle and low rpm under 2k.

Do a search and you will find more info on this topic....

Is it resonance? It didn't start doing it until a couple weeks ago and I had them put on about 4-5 months ago.

ncbuckeye did you by any chane resently add fuel inj cleaner to your gas? I had a "rattling heat shield" sound coming from under my 02 type S w/ obx headers that for a lack of any other reason i had to attibute to me adding inj cleaner(thinking the extra heat in the cat was making it expand beyond specs and rattling.) I really know its a stretch but it was the only new variable to add to the equasion. well anyways it totally went away when i filled up with new gas.

I get a knocking sound under load (low rpm, moderate acceleration). I think it was there prior to the Comptech headers.

No I didn't add fuel injection cleaner. This noise does't bother me too much until I turn down the radio. It makes the car sound like a hunk of junk. Any other ideas? Changed gas many times. I have 38,000 on an 03'. Thanks for the input so far.

A common cause of the rattling you describe is when a baffle comes loose in a muffler. Do you think it's coming from one of those?

it sounds like its coming from the underneath of the car almost where the shifter is inside the car.

I have that same noise.
It's like a low rattlingish/grinding noise from the front
It's very faint and happens usually at low RPM acceleration for only a few seconds.

I took it to Acura who took my car on a 32 mile test drive.
They said they didn't hear anything.

I had an accord for 100K miles; it started making this same noise at random also.

Going to research this a bit.

Anyone else encounter this noise?

it is your cat's heat sheild, had acura remove it because it was driving me nuts. Took it off and the sound when away. No side effects as far as i can tell, the shifter gets a little warm sometimes, but its great for winter driving.

I starting getting the same "heat sheild rattling sound" at 62K. I've been under the car with a rubber mallot and it's definately not the heatsheild; no rott and its tight. It's probably the elements in the CAT or the baffles in the muffler. However, I feel its the CAT as I've had them make the same sound in my other cars before when they've went.
It happens to me at ~40MPH on inclines in a higher gear when accelerating, infrequently. Sounds like its right under my feet.

Anyone have any luck with solving this problem? I checked the heat-shield and it's pretty solid.

Thanks.

Yeah, i have this same problem too!
Acura dealers have just said it's the headers, but don't get specific. I hate the sound, it sucks trying to pull up slowly on some hot girls and then the sound starts happening. Whoopdeedoo.
