Have you gotten past inspection with clear headlights?

There was some discussion about clearing headlights, which I am going to do, but I'm having some second thoughts because of the mandatory inspections that NJ has every two years. I have to get it inspected in about a year and a half, though there is talk now to extend that to four years. Nonetheless, what will happen when we show up with cleared headlights? Is this something they check?

It shouldn't matter if you have an amber bulb. As long as the parking and turning bulbs are amber, then you have meet he legal requirements. That applies to both front and rear. What is not legal are the blue, green or clear lights that some people use for the parking and turning signals..

I dunno bout Texas but I know for sure that in California the front of the car must REFLECT orange light and the rear of the car must reflect red light. I think this is a DOT requirement so its in effect for all states.

On a separate note: Is it more or does the new Civic Si have factory cleared headlights?

Yeah..in california...it is required that you MUST have a orange reflector piece and a red reflector piece on the sides of the vehicle. but who cares? but as for the new Civic Si...doesn't it just have that wittle side marker that's orange? i think the whole headlight itself is clear with a orange bulb! ooooooooh!!

Actually, I have a friend who is a San Diego PD Detective. In his former life as a Beat Cop, he said there are two rules:

1. FRONT turn signals must flash Clear(incandescent) or Amber.

2. REAR turn signals must flash Red or Amber.

That is California's law on that. (I recently double checked this after attending traffic school in L.A.)

yes..indeed that is correct. but the vehicle MUST have a front orange reflector on the side...working or not. and a red in the rear. working or not. Take note of the 00 Accord Coupe.it has a red side marker right? and the sedan doesn't..cause the reflector piece is integrated into the tails. but yeah...that's why for the 2002 TL's, the orange reflector "wraps" around the headlight to the side. why am I explaining this??? haha...time for me to shuddup.... :p

for NJ, you CAN have clear or amber front turn signals; but for the rears, you must have either amber or red only. i checked the NJ statute cause i have clears up front and i use to live in NJ.

I guess I'm going to find out this month. But federal law requires an orange retro-reflector in front.
Title 49--Transportation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHAPTER V--NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

PART 571--FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS
571.108 Standard No. 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

I'm not sure whoever inspects your car will notice or care if you have amber bulbs on your turn signals.
