Has anyone transfer'd there mileage from one gauge cluster to another successfully?

I was talking to a shop locally and they stated you can transfer the mileage by transfer'n the mileage chip from one cluster to another? Is this ture? I thought it needed to be plugged into a computer with special software to upload the mileage to it but they stated it could be done both way on our digital clusters. If so i wouldnt mind doing it myself as it could save me a few hundred dollars. Anyone done this before or know of a diy link? Or better yet if your local in Northern California and have the software to do it and able to do it for cheap let me know as well.

Thanks in advance.

and by the way, swapping mileage from one gauge to another is still defined as "rolling back the odometer" and that is against not only california law, but federal law as well.

Odometer shops handle this and there will be paperwork required to do so.

Have you guys really never seen someone with a TL-P want to install TL-S gauges? Fsttyms1 and many others have done this. Hopefully he is trying to do the responsible thing and is asking to transfer his current, accurate mileage over to a different cluster to install back into his car.

I dont know whats up with the all the hating from a simple question! I know whats legal and not legal so dont even start with that! Im basically trying to move my gauge cluster mileage over to my replacement gauge cluster. Having not the correct original mileage is against the law but having the mileage transfer'd over is legal as long as its exact mileage as the old unit! Which I have both gauges just need to move over the mileage. If I didnt and its completely off than that is illegal which Im trying to do the right thing!

To swap from TL-P gauges to TL-S you cannot just swap them. You actually keep the old main cluster and transfer the gauges over. There's a DIY here's the link: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...wap+99+cluster
Where you find your gauges??

You are correct as far as straight swapping goes with things not functioning or working as it should. I believe it can be done though but would be a pain in the @ss!

But besides the point my TL-S gauge is in the car currently and everything functions as it should with minor things like the ABS, VSA and SRS lights but I also havent worked on the wiring for that yet so its expected. Now if your wondering why and how I was able to get that to work is because I actually did a full Type-S conversion on the car. Now that was a nightmare from hell!! So basically Im a TLP Type-S lol.

Oh by the way I bought the gauge on ebay. I have a CL-S cluster laying around if your interested.

+1. Well said.

...so swapping engine and keep the old cluster is right? that is no different from swapping cluster and keep the old engine. dont you get it, 'engine and cluster' dont match is wrong, period; whether it is under the law or not. It was just a straight question; Not like he is asking how to fake it.

I just "rocked" the mileage on the cluster. There is NO way for you to change the mileage. There might be a shop able to but nothing you can physically do to change it.

This is really only for the 99. You can put a s cluster in a tlp (00-03) and all the gauges will work, just a few of the warning lights won't match up.

So for an 01 I just would have to do the TCS wire to VSA and thats all??

The gauge cluster will mount and plug right up but some warning lights will be lite up (dont remember which ones) and stating issues but most likely there isnt any. Majority of the gauge will work, mileage, rpm, speedometer, etc. You can technically pull the bulb out if you wanted to. Just make sure your car is functioning and maintained good since you dont have some lights to warn you on things anymore.

Im still trying to find a shop locally to update my mileage as Im trying to keep everything accurate. Cali is a state you dont want to mess around with when it comes to cars! Smog, mileage fraud, etc. I believe you can go to dmv and get some sort of update on the mileage with a full page of writing stating why its being changed, etc but screw that!

Will post more as I figure things out with the mileage swap.

01 - 03 the tranny is 5 speed so it shouldnt effect the shifting or the indicator at all. As for the wiring I believe theres more to it than just moving the TCS and VSA wire. I dont remember the wiring schematics for the 01 and up but for the 99 - 00 there were alot of wirings that needed to be moved around.
