Has anyone put their TL on a dyno?

I was recently talking with a coworker about hp and tourque on my vehicle. I mentioned that my 02' TL was stock 225 hp at the wheels. With the cai about 240 hp at the wheels. He tells me that hp on vehicles is never measured at the wheels from the factory, rather the flywheel/crankcase. Im not sure how much hp is lost through the tranny to the wheels. Ive heard 40 to 50 hp, to 30% power loss, to 75 hp loss. No one seems to know. I do know however that hp loss from the flywheel/crankcase to the tranny to the wheels depends largly on the transmission. I have sport shift transmission. Does anyone know the true hp at the wheels for an 02' TL w/ss, or any TL for that matter.

225 at the wheels, 240 with cai!

the TL-P puts down about 180hp at the wheels and a CAI will give you no more than 5 whp!

they sure did... stupid marketing techniques. i wonder how in the world AEM got those numbers
but the v2 does give some nice gains over reg cai's tho, at least thats what i heard. plus a real gowwl at higher rpm's

I have a thread from a few weeks ago where I posted results of my Dyno run. I have a 02' TL-S with Comptech Headers & Axle-Back exhaust, AEM CAI, Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic and ran on stock rims/tires. The dyno showed about 224hp and 188lb/ft torque to the wheels. They did 3 runs on the dyno, once in SS and the results were consistent through all 3 runs.

Every car is different. Not just per make or per model, but each individual car is a little bit different.

That said, on average, our cars suffer about a 24-26% powertrain loss.

A TL Type S with 260 crank horsepower should put down roughly 195-200whp.

Not 100% sure what a TL-P will put down, but assuming the same powertrain loss, it'd be about 165 - 170hp at the wheels.

But like you said, every car is different depending on the efficiency of its transmission.

Well, you're around Type S power, thats not bad. A 35hp gain, probably putting down about 260 at the crank!

im sure he's faster than a type-s even tho peak power is not higher... the power curve is probably better.

cuz when i had i/h/e/p i was dead even with my dads 2004 (which is about the same as a type-s) so with the v-afc he should be faster than a type-s cuz it really helps even out the power curve

i thought it would be more than 197whp tho... more like 215 or something..

My TL Type S only puts down about 220whp with I/H/E, so I don't think a TL-P would be able to put down 215 with bolt-ons.

TypeS cams. People with TLPs are putting them on, along with the TypeS throttle body.

Ya, im doing research on the tls cams and tb. looks like a great mod. just gotta find a tls/cls tb and cams, then find someone to install the cams and re-dyno my car. With these mods i should be easily around 300hp at the crank

230 at the wheels for me. I have an Icebox, headers, pullies (and now Denso Iridiums - which were not on the car during the dyno).
