Question Has anyone had any Major problems??

..so far with their type S? Just curious. I plan to make this my next car. Acura is known for their superior quality and reliability. Still, $30k is a lot to plunk down for a car.

So? Has anyone had any major problems with their type S or their TL?

Yeah, the major problem is that I have this urge to wash it every week.

Nothing major but a couple of minor things:

Uneven tail pipes (fixed)
Misaligned doors (fixed)
squeaks & rattles on bumpy roads (taking it in to get fixed tomorrow)

The first 2 are minor and I could have lived with them even if my dealer hadn't fixed them. They are only cosmetic.

However the squeaks & rattles when I drive over bumpy roads are beginning to irritate me. It is either the door handle or the a/c vent or the right front seat buckle. Haven't isolated the source as yet. Hopefully the dealer will be able to fix this tomorrow.

Does anyone have problems with rattles & squeaks over bumpy roads or did I just luck out

It appears rattles and squeaks in the TL/TLS seem to be endemic. My Anthracite Grey rattled, my buddy's '01 TL rattles and I've seen several posts by other members having the same problem. NOT GOOD.

Anyway ... enough b*tching about the TLS. I'm extremely happy with it and when you consider the ENTIRE package, it is one of the BEST values around.

The engine and transmission are SUPERB, and the suspension very good. Its a shame Acura didn't pay more attention to the interior fit and finish. However keep in mind that I'm comparing it to the interior of my last car the ES 300 which was eirely quiet and known for its superbly finished interior.

At any rate I hope Acura is listening ......

1.) Uneven tail pipes (fixed)

2.) Right side of the hood is not level with the fender (fixed)

3.) Car had the tendency to move forward when it stops witn the A/C on. (fixed)

That's it.

Most likely, it's your seat belt buckle....damn...my dealer tried to fix it already..doesn't work. So, they are ordering a new one and replacing it for me this weekend. I hope it will go away. I know how you feel, the squeaks get on my case everytime.

Yeah .... I hope they're able to fix it.

Hopefully they will be able to isolate the source this time . When I took it in last week they insisted the noise came from the moornroof and they applied the ani-squeak kit. Don't you just love that name

FYI, I had a terrible rattle/squeak in my '99 3.2TL's driver seat. I took over to ACURA service to get it fixed and they had to take out the seat assemble twice and I had a total of four trips to the service department plus a regional Acura rep test drove the car BEFORE they got it fixed properly. Turns out some of the lower seat belt assembly used bolts that were to long and they rubbed against other parts of the seat assembly. Once they replaced these bolts with bolts of the correct length it was totally quiet. This may help someone out there so keep it in mind. Sound always seemed to come from the lower right side of the drivers seated postion.

You just have to put some lubrifiant or grease over the side rubber of the moonroof.

Well, actually, the dealer didn't fix it. After the dealer did the test and the problem is gone for now.

I have to take my car in for the passenger seat. When you try to put it forward or back the motor moves the seat diagonally and make a really strange noise. Nothing major though will be probably wait for first service to fix this problem
One question:
I always do my first oil change at around 1,000 miles after break in. The manual though states that first oil change should not be done before schedule (3,500 miles I think). At which one should I do it in? Thanks.

TGIF, how did they fix the AC problem. I have it as well but I thought that's just how cars are with the AC on.

Speaking of oil changes. I also heard that you should change the oil after 1-2K miles when you first get it. I have over 2k now and I checked the oil level a few days ago and it is at the "hole" towards the bottom end of the stick, is that OK? I called a local Acura dealer and they said that's fine but I don't know, I don't trust those guys at that particular location. Anyone have any input?

Here are few:

1) Rattling sound when backing up, or in Drive right after backing up(taking it this week to check)

2) Jerk forward when A/C is on.

3) Shaking in Park (feels like a change in RPMs, but tachometer doesn't show the change)

Do not change your motor oil before the first recommended interval!

The oil that comes with the car is often called "break-in" oil, and allows a little more wear for the engine parts to seat properly. The best thing to do is vary your engine rpms gently, and avoid hard acceleration.

The original question was regarding "major" problems. Rattles, squeaks, paint, and trim adjustments, while unfortunate, are what I consider "minor" problems. The only "major" problem I remember reading about was regarding a TL-S that had a nasty transmission leak that they thought was going to result in a complete transmission replacement while the car was still just two weeks old. It turned out that it was just a leaking gasket. I also don't consider recalls for window controllers or seatbelt assemblies "major". Annoying yes, disappointing yes, major no...

I have a water leak behind the dash on the driver's side -- water trickles in during hard acceleration while the car is still wet after washing. Haven't been to the dealer yet for a fix. Hopefully it's a simple fix.
