Question Has anyone experienced a weird smell with their TLs?

WE just got a reg TL monday and we've parked in the garage everynight. Every morning we go back into the garage, there's this weird plastic type smell. We don't know what it is but it sorta smells like tires were slightly burned or something. Maybe it's not the tire but it does smell like some kind of plastic burned or something to that extent. Any ideas?

Cool

I had that burnt rubber/smolder plastic smell too. I thot it was coming from the air filter or the air conditioner. Couldn't find any remains of plastic. The smell went away after a few hundred miles. I conclude that it is just normal breaking in.

Might be undercoating overspray. It takes some time to burn that off of the engine or exhaust. Just a thought.

That happened to me once where I experienced a really bad smell, like something was burning. I crawled under my car and looked underneath and apparently I ran over one of those plastic grocery bags and it had stuck to my muffler. It had melted on there. I took a window scraper and started scraping it off. My husband couldn't believe I was under the car doing that. After a few miles the residue finally burned off. It was nasty. From now on if I see one of those bags flying across the road I try to avoid hitting it. Anyone else ever had this happen?

I do the same thing, in my last car, I ran over a garbage bag on the freeway. I was expecting to see it flying up behind me in my rear view... but it flew up underneth my car and got stuck...
Luckily, it wasn't melted on anything, but I did have to pull it out from the axel area.

Since then, I avoid any platic on the roads. I can just imagine it flying up into the fan or some other moving part in the engine compartment.

Oh well, at least it wasn't a small animal.

As far as the smell, its normal.

I was always told that on new cars that is normal, and enhanced after spirted driving.

The reason given was that you have all those new chemicals, paint, sealers, oils, etc with in the engine compartment and the exhaust areas. So until it "burns off or in" you'll have a odor.

Just to be safe, you may want to make sure that you don't have anything touching or too close to high heat areas.

BTW - my TL-S had a different new car smell in the interior than my TL did. I thought it may have been because of the different interior leathers and ebony "plastic".

Anyone else notice that with theirs?
