Hard disc reading error

Occasionally, upon ignition, my Navi comes on with the message" Hard disk reading error, incorrect hard drive". Unless I restart the engine, generally, the Navi remains frozen, although yesterday it corrected itself after 30 minutes of driving. Other than occurring at startup, I can't discern any pattern. My first trip to the dealer was futile, as they couldn't duplicate the error message. I have a second appointment next week and this time I'm demanding that they repair or replace the unit regardless of their diagnosis or ability to duplicate the problem. Have any of your TL Navi's experienced a similar problem? If so, what was the outcome? I'd appreciate any feedback. This is the only problem I've encountered with my 1999 TL after 35,000 miles and I'd like to get this resolved before my warranty expires.

I think that the 99 TL has a PCMCIA hard drive for the Navi unit, it in not DVD-based. The read error is not a good thing? If it has gradually been getting worse, I would get into the dealer and have it fixed/replaced while it is under warranty.

Most likely it means that your hard drive is going bad, or there is a bad connection to the hard drive. They should fix it. Which dealer will you take it to?

The '99 TL has a PMCIA hard drive. I'm taking it to Criswell Acura on West Street in Annapolis, MD. They've been great in the past and generally seem keen to please. I used to go to Acura West over on Rt 40, but Criswell's prices on scheduled maintenance blew everyone in the Baltimore area out of the water. I forgot what I paid for the 30 k service but I recall it being at least $150 less than local rates. I see my dealer this Wednesday. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
