Handling: Type S v. Comptech Modded TL
One of the reasons I went with the '01 TL rather than the Type-S was because I figured a TL with Comptech springs and sways, and fatter tires would handle as well as, or better than, a Type S. Can anyone compare the two based upon actual driving experience yet?
I can....my '99 (see sig for mods) handles better than the '02 Type S. I drove it yesterday, and there is no question about it.

TITAN3.2TL: My springs just arrived, and I am waiting on my sways. I was considering installing the Tokico non-adjustables at the same time as the springs and sways, but figured I'd just ride out my stock shocks first (I just picked up my ride at the beginning of this month). How do you like the Tokicos? Did you buy them because your stock shocks went bad? Do they noticeably stiffen the ride?
I didn't notice much ride difference with the Tokicos. I would ride out the stock ones.

My CL type S handles much times better after the comptech springs, sways than when I was stock.

I will grant the possibility that the Comptech springs might do better on smooth roads, but on any other surface I doubt it. Spring rates, Shock compression and rebound settings are critical, and the engineering horsepower is definitely in the favor of the mfr. What works on a billiard table seldom works in the real world.

I'm not sure I exactly understand what you are referring to. Can you explain? Are you just referring to springs, or overall handling? I also don't understand your reference to flat roads. Most of the roads I drive on are flat. If I anticipate non-flat roads, I'll take my SUV.
Let me explain.
By flat, I mean very smooth roads or racing circuits, as compared to roads such as in New England that are basically paved cow paths, and have negative crowns, iregularities everywhere, and are just jiggly. A very tightly sprung car (al la Comptech) will have less roadholding on this type of road.
Same is true for spring rates. Most Euro cars are softly sprung, but tightly shock damped and have long suspension excursions. This has proved over the years to give excellent roadholding, especially where there are bumps in mid corner, which can unsettle a lowered car due to spring rebound effects.

Now that more people have test-driven or picked up their TL-S's, I wanted to renew this thread: Which handles better, a TL w/comptech springs/sways and fatter tires, or the TL-S. After the mods, I would think the only thing the TL-S has on the TL is the torque-steering (haven't heard many comments about that) and the VSA. Has anyone taken the Pepsi challenge?

If cost wasn't a factor, that would have been the best scenario. But in my case, I had a certain budget I was willing to spend on my car. If I would have chosen the TL-S, I wouldn't have had any extra cash in my budget to blow on mods, and would have had to settle for bone stock. Since I chose the '01 TL at a considerable discount, I could afford extras like the spoiler, rims, tires and suspension mods. Part of the reason why I went with the modded '01 was because if I got the TL-S I still would have wanted to blow $$$ on mods, but would not have been able to.

i had a 00tl with comptechs, and after driving the tls for a couple of hundred miles decided to drop it, the ride is actually a little more forgiving with comptechs, but firmer (if u can understand that) and it also handles much better due to lower center of gravity. i havnt done too much driving yet, so i cant speak for doing nething aggresive... but soon

How do you like your P7000s? I'm picking up rims and tires over the weekend. I ordered the Bridgestone RE730s, but my tire guy said he'd give me a better deal on P7000s. Which would you recommend?
