H&R springs - Early 2002 - wrong number

Found out something kind of interesting, I spoke to Steve and Rob at H&R yesterday and it sounds like those of us who bought sport springs early in 2002 and were given spring #51858 got the incorrect springs (not made for the type S)- they gave me the correct part number. May explain why the drop was much more than the 1.75/1.5 advertised.

Kinda of pisses me off, considering I even called a retailer at the time to verify they were correct because I saw 99 - 01 Accord on the box.

Also interesting they don't make a OE spring for the 2002+ TL's

there is nothing incorrect about the springs you have..i have them too..and it does in fact say accord v6 on the side of the box..h&r didn't make TL springs then, maybe they do now, but anyway, our TL suspension is identical to the accord v6, and the reason for the lower drop than advertised is because the TL is heavier than the accord therefore altering the level of drop from what is advertised by h&r

EXACTLY.

There was no error.. most people have been knowingly buying and selling the H&R springs for the Accord V6 for the TL/CL because it fits fine. Like was said... they sit a little lower b/c of the weight difference.. so on the TL it's more of a 1.75"/1.75" drop vs. the advertised drop. Same with the OE springs... you buy the Av6 version and it fits fine. So whether it was the OE or the Sports, everyone who bought the H&R's bought the AV6 version which fit fine.

H&R may have just come out with a TL/CL specific spring... but there was never a secret that we've been using the Accord springs all along....

I have the OE box sitting in my trunk.

They are "51858-55 AccordV6/TL."

The "new" labels say TL.

I got my H&R around May 02. I got the accord springs too. My drop is close to 2" Since the TL is heavier the drop will be more. But the way it lowers the car looks good. I have 1 finger gap all around. Just the way I like it

Tatewaki, do you remember your stock ride height prior to the H&R Sport springs? Did your front wheel well have a bigger gap than the rear to begin with? For you to have a 1-finger gap all the way around and H&R Sport springs being a 1.75"/1.75" drop, that would mean that your stock ride height(front/rear wheel gap) was even-steven from the start. If so, then I'm jealous! I've been looking to lower my TL-S and my current stock ride height, front/rear is 28"/27.5" respectively. If I go with the H&R Sports, can I assume that my car would rake backwards? Probably a 1-finger gap upfront and tucked in the back? Everyones' 2-cents please...Thanks.

Stock the front is slightly higher then the rear.

However, if you go with the H&R Sports you will have an even drop front/rear which is equivalent to about 1 finger gap all around (with 18" tires). I have pics linked in my sig if you'd like to see the Sports with 18" rims/tires. You have to remember that the drop that the Sports advertise isn't what really happened. If I actually measure it's more like 2"/1.75" b/c in the end it's an even drop with no rake (unless you have a 200 pound system in the trunk... then the rear may sit lower).

Juniorbean, you're fast! Thanks for the reply. So can I be 100% sure that the H&R Sports will give my car a level, "even-gapped" ride height? I really like the H&Rs BUT was considering the CTs just because the drop would be 1.5/1.25 and would somewhat compensate for the uneven stock wheel gap. BTW, should I just go ahead and purchase a rear camber kit if I decide to go with the H&Rs? Thanks...

Well the drop on my car is closer to 3 inches. Measured a stock TLS and mine, fenderwell to the ground. This was straight from the mouth of Steve at H & R. He said the 51858's are for up to '01 TL's, not for 02 and beyond. I also spoke to Rob and got the same story.

Yeah, it was a little slow at work that day.. so I was hanging out posting

Anyway, if you go with the H&R, you will probably need the camber kit. Honestly it depends on the rims you use.... for my setup, I did need a camber kit.

As for the drop itself, it's not 100% that you will get a level drop, b/c those springs tend to settle differently on different cars. Look at Bricot for example... his drop is closer to 3" while mine is more like 2"/1.75". If you want a consistant drop... go with the Comptech's, b/c that drop is pretty much the same on any car that has them installed....
