H&R Race springs vs. Comptech springs?

I have the Comptechs now, and I've loved them so far, but i think i want just a little more stiffness, a little lower up front, and a little more sport...

I was going to go with the Tein SS but cant find a good price on them, and im not spend $1,000 on one suspension component...

So i was thinking H&R Race springs??? anyone have them??? i know im going to sacrafice a little ride quality but im OK with that... Or should i get Koni's and that will solve the problem too?

Anyone?

Go with H&R Sport Springs....with the race springs you will completely sacrifice ride quality and you won't be able to ever go into a driveway with hill again!

if you get some adjustable shocks, like the Koni's or the Tokico Illumina's u can adjust the dampening to a setting that youd like. that way you wont have to change out your springs. just a thought, someone correct me if im wrong

Yes, you're thinking about this all wrong. Different springs aren't going to make your car stiffer, only ride higher or lower.

I think the perfect solution for you is Koni Neuspeed adjustable shocks.

You will be able to turn your car hard as a brick if you choose and you will also be able to fine tune the height a little bit.

If you're concerned about height then get Koni Neuspeed (5 height adjustments)

If you're only concerned about stiffness then Koni Yellow or Tokico Illumina will do fine.

will installing only the Koni Neuspeed shocks allow you to drop the car a bit without changing the springs? How much of a drop?

Let me add on to the previous. I don't mind the wheel gap in the rear but would really like to lower the front to at least even it out. If I understand correctly, I could just use a pair of the Koni shocks up front without having to change out the stock springs?

You could do that but it would only drop by max 1/2 inch I think.

If that's all you want then it's a good option.

However, I would still change the rear shocks or your handling will be screwed up.

Koni's alone WILL NOT lower your car with stock springs.

The H&R Sport Springs give a more dramatic drop than the Comptechs

REAR (barely 2 fingers):

FRONT (a little over 2 fingers):

Iggy, where the hell have you been? Havent seen you around for ages dude....

Im thinking im going to compliment the Comptechs by adding the Neuspeed/Koni's. Either that or spend the little extra for Tein SS and sell the comptechs. But i wont pay $900 for the teins.... problem is, no one sells them, and when they do, they have ass-loads of miles on them... so if anyone has them laying around, ill pick them up...

Did you get the Koni/Neuspeed shocks or just plain Koni's. The Koni/Neuspeed shocks are 20mm shorter than the stock size. This would result in a VERY MILD drop.

the H&R sport and comptechs drop to the same ride height = same

but since the comptech ones say "comptech" they can price it higher

I dont suggest you get the race springs. Your ride will be horrible. My brother had them on his CL and the ride was soo friggen bouncy and rough. I used to have the sport spring on my TL and they were perfect. The ride wasn't too stiff and the drop was just right.

springs will definitley affect ride quality...by getting springs that lower your ride, your getting stiffer springs that will not constrict as well to bumps in the road, therefore making ride more harsh

"Wait I dont get this... so you're tellign me by doing springs my ride quality will be the same? I dont get it."

Springs will make the ride harsher but they are not the best way to increase stiffness.

The best handling improvement you can make is sway bars. Imagine a flimsy cardboard box. Now imagine a flimsy box that is reinforced with popsicle sticks across the front and back.

If you want to decrease nose-dive during breaking then shocks are your best bet.

I'm not saying that springs don't affect ride quality, only that the primary reason to get springs is not ride quality but ride height because sways and shocks are a better way to increase ride quality. but who wants a quality ride with SUV wheel gap anyways???!!!!

I called H&R today, there was no stickers in my H&R Sprot Spring box, not sure if the installers grabbed them, but I don't think so there was a bunch of stickers but no "H&R" stickers.

I told the guy that I had a '99 TL and just insatlled H&R Sport springs but I didn't have any stickers. The guy was amazing, what's your address?, I'll fire some out right now, what size do you want? , what color?
Great customer service, obviously I'm not supposed to pay for the stickers, thought that was kind of cool.

Anyway, I asked the guy what would be the next thing I should do to prevent my stock shocks from premature wearing. He told me I shouldn't have anything to worry about the H&R Sport springs are made to work with the TL's stock setup, so I souldn't have to worry about premature wear, but if I would like to improve handling there was steps I could take to improve that, but the springs were designed to work with the stock setup, so people wouldn't have to get new springs, shocks, coil overs,......etc... I thought that was pretty cool and a little bit reassuring that my car won't f'up being this low. just my $0.02

I got H&R Race springs, and the ride is bit more harsh than Comptech. No complaints about my drop.

Just wondering...can someone confirm what Residual_Freedom was told by H&R?

I would love to get just springs right now and my eibach sway bars at once versus getting the H&R springs and the tokicos blues.

I am just wondering how I can tell if getting new springs with stock shocks is going to cause me problems. I have 51k on my car now....

If I do the springs and sway bars...I could do the shocks in about 6 months.....what could happen in 6 months??

Any advice would be great.
