H.I.D ballast R.I.P....suggestions welcomed.
What's up everyone. Unfortunately my ballast went out. Tried to fix it but after I opened it realized pieces were shot the f out. I'm wondering wether I should buy a used ballast or just buy a whole new aftermarket kit. I don't want to lose the whole lights turning off automatically feature. Some kid i know that sells kits told me to say goodbye to that feature. Is there anyway i could keep that feature with aftermarket H.I.D's. Thanks for your time in advance.

I'm unsure if the auto-off feature is controlled by the ballasts. I would think it is in one of the BCM's and that the headlight relays remain powered for a set time after the car is turned off, thought I could be mistaken.
Your best bet would be just find a used ballast, or even pick a new one up if you feel uncomfortable about a used one.
www.car-part.com is a good place to find parts. Even if the part you need isn't listed, most of the locations that have OTHER parts you aren't looking for usually have unlisted parts you might want.

not sure how many people have an entire aftermarket HID set here, since we all have it stock. But maybe somebody will chime in who does
Found a few ballasts on Ebay for cheap, check there as well.

your local auto junkyard- now called automobile dismantling and recycling. is a good place to start
They are all hooked on a hotline- like nextel- where they put out a call for the part you need if they done have it, and have it shipped for you
Was there a moisture problem in the headlight housing?
often that water drips down thru air vent hole at rhe bottem of the headlight area and drips on the ballast--- killing it

I have an after market. My ballast went out as well. I had my after markets for a little over a month now. Save me a crap load of money. BTW the auto off feature still exists on the after markets.

There's some HID parts for sale in the BM section. Just recently saw a guy selling a couple ballasts and ignitors because he got aftermarket HIDs. I think one ballast was good and one was bad. Should probably still be up for sale because they just went up a few days ago.

one of my OEM ballast went dead, someone from AZ offer $100 for ONE single ballast. c'mon get real with that price i can buy an entire HID kit!!!! so i buy an KIT for $90bucks, and sold the GOOD ballast for $50 instead of people here selling for $100! and the bad ballast someone offer to buy it, but instead of me selling it i just told him just pay for shipping.
