Question For the guys that removed their cat and mid muffler

Im thinking about taking the mid muffler out and also the cat. Did any of you have issues with the check engine light coming on?

I did do some searching on the subject, but didnt notice anyone talking about the check engine light coming on so I was asking just to make sure. Im sure cutting the cats might make it sound even louder. On my Trans Am I didnt have the issue with the check engine light being on when I eliminated the cats...... thanks for the info.

When i got my mid-muffler removed the guys unplugged my O2 sensor, They claimed that any custom work would mess up the car/codes. I crawled under the car and found the o2 sesor unplugged. I just plugged it back in. You might want to check to see if they did that to you.

on your TA, the cats were after the 02 sensors likely, as an above post points out. This car has an 02sensor in the cat to ensure that it is remaining compliant to California and/or LEV standards. if the 02 cpu detetcts no difference between values at the 02 sensor in your cat and the 02s prior to it, you will get a CEL and also not pass emissions testing.

I have a Random Technology high flow cat and no mid muffler and get a bit of rasp around 2500 - 3000 RPM that can get a bit annoying, but I think that the comptech headers add to it and don't think that all TLs will do that.

i got mine removed recently. mid muffler removal has nothing to do with check engine code.
removing cat does.
engine is fine. everything is fine. just no signal to oxygen sensor. if you want power and sound and no cat. just drill a hole the size of the oxygen sensor. screw it in. plug it in. and ull get rid of the code.

thats what i did after a couple of hours. all good now

Do you get the cel light on with that setup?

I don't think you're out of the woods yet. Convertor code usually requires more than one drive cycle along with some other parameters to set.
