It was 1 with the redesigned parts. It never had any signs of failure in the 3rd gear so it has me wondering. it never droped out of 3rd. It just lost ability to get a gear once warm. possibly a selonoid should know more monday

Im beyond dealers now. Its at the shop that rebuilt it last time. If they cant work something out for me ill be doing the swap. Ive already started looking for the parts.
The closest dealer to me is madison, but at 199,800k they arent doing crap for me

Man ... you love your car. I'm barely over 60,000miles and I have felt at 30mph, it shift down (on its own) from 3rd on a handful of occasions. Has me wondering if this originally tranny will last 100,000 miles or how long do I want to keep the car beyond 100,000miles. I wanted to keep this car 10 years before trading it in for a family hauler (CR-V, Rav4, Mazda5, maybe?) 'cause that's the next logical step for my GF. (I'm getting a 2nd gen G35c when it comes out ... )

Problem is the car isnt worth much with 200k on it and its in perfect shape and makes a great work car for me, so thats why i keep it around. If the tranny place that rebuilt this one wont cover it (just past teh 12k warranty) ill be doing a 6 speed swap.

alright question for you fsttyms1: Do you use your SS mode often? Also, do you drive spiritedly often?

Cuz I destroyed my tranny in my 97 Prelude due to overuse of the SS mode.

Once and awhile. SS is for teh most part usless. I do drive hard. SS mode has nothing to do with the failures on our cars. Many people who have never used SS mode have had their trannies die. Its just a internal design problem with the 3rd gear clutchpacks and cooling

yes, but revving hard thru those lower gears and also downshifting in SS will contribute to a faster death of it.

Kris, this may be a dumb question, but does Acura warranty the replacement tranny for a certain amount of miles. I know that this probably wouldn't make much sense to do so, but your last tranny only lasted a few months. I only ask because mines is at Acura right now for its first tranny replacement at 86,500 miles.

There's no proof of that. If the transmission wasn't designed for people to use SS, and not designed to handle the J32's power, then Honda shouldn't have put the transmission in that car. It is not our fault the transmissions suck. It is a DESIGN problem. I will be damned if I will buy a car with decent power and a SS transmission and then NOT USE IT because the company fuckered it up.

But I agree.. SS is totally useless.

Transmission warranty is 7/100k. No matter how many you go through in that period, they'll be free.

Once replaced after 100k miles, the replacement has a 12month/12000 mile warranty.

Thanks 03CoupeV6. So, what I gather from what you said, if the replacement dies within the 12month/12,000 mile period, then the replacement of the next tranny will be at Acura's cost once again? Sorry for all the questions....

As long as you have the 7/100 k they will replace it for free. Now if you have one replaced on them at 99,999 miles the tranny will be warrantied for 1 year from the install date OR untill 111,999 miles

Let us know how everything goes with your tranny....and the wheel to. I am really hoping to see those RJ's at the next meet. Did you ever find that thread about the place that will repair your wheels?

Well looks like ill be doing the 6 speed conversion.
Talked to teh tranny place, doesnt sound like its the 3rd gear problem, but for how much they want to tear it down to clean out and fix, i could buy a used CL-S 6 speed.

Time to start shoppin
