Talking GTech Pro results - cold air intake and headers

Hello all.

Last week I tested out my new Gtech Pro on my stock 2000 TL with performance tires. The average results were:

0-60 in 6.7 seconds

195 hp at the wheel.

I had the AEM cold air intake and the Comptech headers installed a few days ago. Finally had a chance to test out the gains with the Gtech tonight.

0-60 worst time 7.2 seconds (bad launch)
0-60 best time 6.27 seconds
0-60 average over 6 runs 6.47

improvement: .23 seconds

HP best 217

hp worst 198 (I think I started too soon)

Average HP 213

improvement in horsepower at the wheels: 18

Note that if the car is losing about 15% of the power to the drivetrain, that equals about 250 hp at the crank.

The car "feels" faster. I really love the sound the intake makes. I was really worried it would be loud and crappy sounding but in fact it really growls over 4k rpm.

The intake is almost not noticable at idle or "normal" driving. In other words, my wife will not even know its there. But when you want to punch it, the car sounds great!

The Gtech times are most likely optimistic but at least it gives a good indication of the improvement. Is it worth all the extra cash for .23 of a second, depends are your point of view. However, the car "feels" much better.

My business partner also drives a TL - completely stock. I took him out today to try out the mods. His reaction was "WOW - how much does this cost and I want it!"

I will have to run all the tests again when the Mugen exhaust arrives.

Good Job! Can't wait for my headers! I already got the CAI but I wonder if I will feel any difference with the headers. What mean is of course there will be a difference but will I notice it?

Bright - did you install the intake? If not, what did it set you back and where did you get it done?

Thanks

I didn't install the intake myself. Not only am I mechanically challenged but I also don't have much time.

I had it installed by a local garage that specializes in mufflers, rads and brakes. The garage is a client of mine (I'm an accountant) and the owner promised me a perfect install. He put his best gut on the job for both the headers and intake. I printed out the instructions from the site along with the posts about protecting the intake from the sharp fender edges. Looks like they did a great job.

I don't know what it cost yet. My client hasn't given me a bill. He will though. I think the mechanic spent about 6 hours between the intake and headers. The hourly rate here is $60 cdn (about $40) US. I figure he spent at least an extra hour checking things over at my request.

Estimated cost of install of headers and intake: $300 cdn or $200 US.

Bright - I know there's a difference but can you actually feel it when you take off or could it possibly be misleading due to the noise the CAI makes?
