My 03 TL-S has been making weird noise when I start driving 3 or 4 seconds after the start of engine. It sounds like some sort of grinding noise, or electrical control noise, very similar to VSA(TCS) kicking in sound. But it only makes that sound in following condition:

-Start the engine, put in Drive, start going forward, noise after 3 or 4 second

-It doesn't make noise anymore once car is running

-It makes noise right after I start driving forward but only when engine turns on from off state (It doesn't make noise when I fully stop and go, as long as engine is running and made that sound once, it will not make that noise again until I turn off the engine and turn it back on)

-It doesn't make noise if I go reverse even if I just turned on the engine but once I start going forward, noise comes again

Is this normal and anyone experienced same thing in your TLs? maybe something is trying to adjust when engine starts? Initially I thought this was VSA so I turned the VSA off and did same thing, still makes that noise. Any ideas what this would be?

 

sounds like the 2 ABS self test, one when put in Drive and another a few seconds into motion
Has it always done this or you are new to the car?

 

I am new to the car. It's been like this ever since I owned it. Is it safe to drive? Anything needs to be replaced?

 

It's normal. It's the ABS self check. No need to worry about anything!

 

ABS check. One at 5mph and another at 15mph.
