Green power steering

My power steering fluid has turned green. NO I HAVE NOT USED GREEN FLUID. I usually use either red or clear.
I did a power steering flush 3 times and each time came out green again?
Any suggestions on what to do besides take it to the shop? Oh it’s a 2000 Acura TL 3.2L

I believe it’s prestone. It’s a yellow bottle. This last time we just did the autozone brand to flush it. But that was clear. After we started it it was green again. And it’s a coolant green, not dark.

Also, I’ve had my car for 6 years, and have always used that brand, I mean so I couldn’t see that being a problem now.

Yeah, give it a cheeky lil' taste test. Just to make sure it's not just coolant.

I can't imagine that coolant would be able to get in unless you hooked something up way wrong, but this is mainly to confirm that you're not just looking at the wrong reservoir or something.

The steering fluid I use turns a dark brown when it's old - is that the color you're seeing, or is it straight-up coolant green?

I haven’t worked on it. I checked it about a month ago and it was red. The color is straight coolant green. Bright. It does smell a bit like coolant when it gets hot. My power steering pump is now leaking.

smells like coolant, looks kinda like coolant - taste it later and let us know if tastes like coolant too. that'd be some weird power steering fluid, huh?

are you sure you didn't confuse the reservoirs? the power steering and coolant overflow reservoirs are right next to each other.

Lol. No. On my car the reservoirs are on opposite sides. I definitely know the difference! Also what does coolant taste like?

oh are they? i've been digging around in my toyota's engine bay a lot more than my acura's lately, i must be blending them together in my mind. either way i mean if it looks and smells like coolant, might as well confirm with taste!
it tastes nasty, super bitter. please don't like drink it, it's kinda poisonous. i just dip the tip of my pinky in and lick that if i need to taste test.

the only thing i can think of is copper corroding turns green and leaching into the reservoir causing it to turn green.

Swap out the green coolant for the OEM blue coolant and see what happens.

Found that this line is leaking an I have no idea what it is. Still have no idea about the color of the fluid either.

Still need to see a pic of the fluid. the reservoir looks like it has black fluid in it. If you are concerned about the color of the fluid, good. It's said that old fluid will contribute to breakdown of seals in the power steering rack. I'm told the primary cause of fluid breakdown is oxidation and worn out hoses.

There are a few ways to refresh the fluid, but honestly if you want the fluid to stay good for a while you should replace those hoses; some look original, but with aftermarket clamps.

@whitetiger5 it does look dark, because we added Powersteering Lucas in. However that probably shouldn’t have been done. We are replacing all of the hoses and the pump, probably along with the serp belt. Thank you for the info.

@thoiboi you sir, are a dick. I’m pretty sure me and the 4 people that have looked under my hood. Perhaps you don’t see the fluid drip on the hose. Your opinion is no longer needed. Thanks.

lol don’t start crying just because people here are trying to help and you’re giving them hardly anything to work with. Try having some thicker skin and for the love of god STOP using a Frankenstein of different aftermarket power steering fluids and flush that stuff out with OEM power steering fluid!

Honda’s hate the aftermarket stuff and you’re guaranteed to run into problems if it stays in your system for too long!

Aandb919, a word to the wise. This forum has a wealth of information and it's members are extremely knowledgeable about these vehicles. If you have a question, be specific with as many details as possible but do your homework first using the search function. Most peeps around here will help you with open arms if you show a little humbleness and respect, but the second you start with the name calling or high and mighty attitude i guarantee you won't last a second!

Regarding your power steering fluid issue, the fluid in there needs to be 100% flushed out and replaced with genuine Honda PS fluid. As Darksyne mentioned, these pumps do not play well with any other type of fluid.
