My whole town is on a hill, so yeah the grade logic is worthless, I downshift manually.

Gradelogic does not downshift when going down a hill. Gradelogic *will* prevent the car from upshifting when going uphill. Generally speaking, the car will not downshift until the engine has reached the minimum RPM to hold the current gear. IMHO the easy explanation for this is that brake pads are cheap to repair, so it is preferable to chew up the brake pads to slow the car down than to put wear and tear on the engine by downshifting to engine brake. I downshift to 3rd gear fairly often to help slow the car down without slamming on the brakes... Going down to 2nd is a bad idea unless you're going pretty slow. Despite the fact that 2nd gear goes all the way up to 75MPH, you're going to feel the car lurch quite a bit if you downshift to 2 while going over 25MPH.

The Gradelogic does downshift but I just can't figure out under what conditions the TL transmission will do this while in the full auto mode. Sometimes it comes on other times it does not.

Anyone out there with insights?? Colin?

Well I have an Accord right now, not a Tl(yet anyway), but my accord has gradelogic also. I used to have to drive up a steep hill to get home, and the way it worked in my car was that the tranny wouldnt downshift, but instead hold the lower gear and prevent upshifts using engine braking. My other cars would all upshift while going down the hill and speedup even if I was just coasting whereas my Accord wouldnt speed up as much.
Oh yeah Im not sure at what degree of inclination the gradelogic control takes effect.

Post GradeLogic or lack of logic?

You guys figured out how the Gradelogic works yet? The downshifting part I can't seem to figure out. It seems to kick in when I don't want it to and not engage when I want it to. If I brake going down hill without ever using the accelerator that should be obvious to the computer that I want to slow down and the tranny should gear down but it doesn't.

Good thing for the Sportshift otherwise I'd go crazy.
