Read in another post about a dude who "traded" his dealer survey (the one you get after you buy your new car) for a burlwood shifter knob. Well, I tried it and guess what? It worked!

So how long does it take for this survey to arrive? I have had my car for 5 weeks - nothing yet. By the way - do you really trust those salesmen satisfaction percentages given that mine offered a tank of gas and oil change only "if it was filled out correctly" - and he even filled one out as a "sample". Yikes.

If he did that, I would expect much more than an oil change & a tank of gas. I got a tank of gas, full detail & two oil changes & all they asked me to do was fill it out.

Thank goodness I didn't turn my survey in yet. I've had it, but didn't want to give it to him yet. You know where I'm going straight after work tomorrow.

Slvr TL: You don't get anything for submitting the survey. Depending on the ethics of the dealer, you might be able to negotiate something for handing the survey over to the COMPLETELY BLANK. They, of course, will fill it in with glowing praises of their dealership...

Tink: Bought my car two weeks ago. Got the survey in today's mail. Got the shift knob this afternoon.

WARNING: ANYONE TRYING THIS, BE CAREFUL!

When I entered the dealership with my blank survey, the dealer asked whether I had received the dealer's coupon for a free oil change. I said I had. The salesman then tried to persuade me that the free oil change was offered in return for the blank survey! I said, "No, you give out free oil changes with every car you sell -- before you get any surveys turned in. I want the shift knob. Give me the shift knob, you'll get the blank survey." (Boy, these guys are unscrupulous!)

I almost asked for free front and back Acura TL chrome license plate frames in addition to the shift knob, but I didn't want to sour the deal by seeming too greedy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These surveys are like GOLD to these dealers. The salesperson emphasized that like three times during our negotiatons.
