Got into an accident yesterday

I was pulling into a parking space when all of a sudden a car that was parked decided to open his car door while i commit to park. Its nothing i could do it happened so quickly. He claim that he was right but look at where i got hit at. He should of seen me coming. I have an appointment for a car inspection tomorrow.my car is the green TL....who you think was at fault here. he claim his door was open and his feet out the door but the pic tell a different story.

if his door was already open there should be contact lines and scratches on your car as you drive into it. a deep depression like that just looks like he unleashed fury on yours.

it looks like he swung his door, put a nice dent into your fender and the door kept moving to add another 2 marks

Both of you are at fault, he should look when getting out of the car, and you should look when pulling into a spot. You should pull in very slowly.

This is another reason I don't park next to other cars. It's just an accident waiting to happen. 90% of the people that park in parking lots are terrible drivers, don't pay attention and think they own the lot. Park away from others and walk.

x2. better to walk another 20feet than to come back to your car and have dents on it from a car that u parked by.

no. When i was pulling in i did look. I was 3/4th into my space..look at the point of contact and the impact of the dent cant you see that he open his door w/o looking?? If his door was slightly open dont you close it till i move in?? if his door was visible open then i wouldnt even argue...homie door was closed

Damn bro, that sucks. I have always heard around here that whoever opens the door is responsible for making sure it's clear, but that only applies to parking on the street as far as I know.

I'm not attacking you or saying you are 100% at fault. I can tell by the damage that the guy swung that door wide open into your car. I'm going from a cops point of view on an accident report. I think you it will be about 75%his fault and 25% yours.

I would find another foodmart if I were you, or park in another lot close by and walk. I'm sorry to see your car damaged and I wish you the best of luck.

I guess thats a NY thing. In Arkansas we do not go off of %. its is either your fault or not. Simple as that. If i was a Police Officer and got called to do a report on that accident. the driver of the red Toyota would be at fault. I really hope you did a police report on this.

His fault. you should be fine.

I called the cop. I went to the collision appointment and the damage came out to be 1,600$ with a 200$ deductible....so they wrote me a check for 1,400$ to get my car fix.

If its private property I'm told fault will not be determined. I could be misinformed. BTW this will be hard to tell because there are no lines to determine when the door went into your space.

I've been told that the accident rate in parking lots is higher then on the road. I park at one end of the parking lot whenever possible and walk into the store. Also helps to work off my love for ice cream... but really not enough.

Bummer on the car, a new fender about $300 painted should fix your problem. Bumper looks recoverable, cost unknown.

Wow I must have been typing when you posted. $1600 for just that, I'm surpised. Way to go - unfortunate you had to use your own insurance.

it was a food mart parking lot. You can tell that he swung the door when i was near him because of the location of the hit. He should of seen me coming in because i saw the door closed. Look very close at the second pic its a huge pic so u might have to scroll over.......i reverse my car in the pic but look where my car was and the door location. I was damn near parked fully.

try a junk yard for a fender and paint it, should cost between $200-$300 to paint it. cant tell from the pic but try some scratch x remover to take the toyotas scuff marks off. if not ur gonna need to paint the bumper also.
