Got hit - how much to fix?
I just realized this morning that I got hit while parked outside a bar last night. It looks like a rather large truck backed into my rear bumper. There is a dent in the plastic bumper that is all scratched, one of the tailights is cracked, and the trunk lid has just enough bend in it so it doesn't sit flat when closed. I'd like to hear from you guys an estimate of what you think it'll cost to get fixed so I don't get raped by a body shop. I can probably push the dent in the bumper out and use the tips given in a previous post to remove the bulk of the scratches. Any ideas on flattening out the trunk lid? The corner of the truck hit the top little flare on the back of the lid, making the lid buckle a little on the right side where it should meet the rest of the car. This is a pretty crappy way to start of the day... Thanks
I would ask friends if they have had any good experiences with body shops in your area. Sorry to hear about your accident. I feel your pain. 3 weeks after i got my TL, i came out of a bar and someone keyed the quarter panel. damn was i pissed.
I dont know if you want the oem red/orange tailights but i have a set that i can sell you if you want.

That sucks. Hit and run in a parking lot. A far as getting it fixed and where, I agree with NBP: Talk to some friends and get a reference.
Your insurance should cover this, though. Have you considered running it through them? The damage will almost certainly exceed your collision deductable.
On a mods note: This might be a good time to get some 2002 taillights.

If you have to replace both trunk & rear bumpercover....my estimate will reach around $1800 with everything incl. 1 taillamp.
If we can save trunk & bumper cover..(hope those are fixable) it will go down around $900~$1000 depends on the damage on the car.....
Hope it will help.....
Post some pic....I'll try to help not to get ripp off.....

The batteries in my camera are dead - I'll post a pic after lunch. The tails are just barely cracked so those will be the last things I replace. I'll go through my insurance only if the rates aren't going to go up a bunch. They're already sky high... You guys with tails, what is a fair price?
I think this job will cost about 1500 (for good job)...here is my justification,
1) New bumper cover plus prepping and painting, 500 dollars
2) New taillights, about 200 dollars for one, or TL-S lights about 400 a pair
3) straightening trunk lid then repainting the lid is about 500 dollars.

java,
I got rear ended back in April. and I took my car to an Acura body shop (which really sucked - Los Gatos Acura Body shop, never go there). But a new bumper costs about $250 unpainted. Labor, paint, and some other BS, it came out for me to be about $870 total.. but my insurance covered it and I got my deductable back cuz it was the other guys's fault..
I should have just taken the insurance money and fixed it myself..
So from what you are describing, I would say somewhere in the area of $1000-1300 if you were to replace the bumper and get everything painted again..

Here is the damage from the side and rear. The trunk closes, but not tightly. The tail light damage is practically invisible. So how much??? Thanks again

Hi all,
This is my first post here and I wanted to thank everyone for all the advice that was given on this board. Because of you guys, I was convinced to get Comptech springs and sways and I have to say the ride/handling are amazing! Well after all this time lurking, it's time for me to contribute to this great forum
.
I think the trunk can be fixed with paintless dent removal (www.dentwizard.com). There's no paint damage to the trunk at all. I've used them before when I had a HUGE (football size) dent on my rear quarter panel and it is now impossible to tell there was even a dent. This also works out a lot cheaper than getting it repainted. I'm guessing about $200-250 for the trunk
The bumper is a different story however
. You'd need a new cover and of course a repaint. The repaint will run about $500.
I hope that helps and make sure you shop around.
