Good God, Mercy on My Soul
I am a virgin at this. Yesterday I waxed my car for the first time. And I must say, GOOD LORD what a time consuming project. After applying Meguire’s Gold wax product, I used Nu-Finish coating polish. Man, it took so much energy. I now have a newfound respect for those people that work in the car wash/wax industry, and as well as for those who drive in an all-out shinny car every week that blinds me at intersections.
Is there a more efficient method/product besides me paying for a wax done by a professional? (I estimated that I took a total of 3-4 hours, including the waiting period to “let dry to haze.”)
P.S. By the way, I saw a girl driving a nice looking, dropped silver TL in Buena Park, CA yesterday. That ride was hot! I am just curious if you visit this site.

Why do you guys still think Zaino is sooo hard?
It's no different than any other wax/polish
The difference might be that Sal took the time to document all the proper steps that you should do to properly prep a car.
1) Wash - yeah, I hope everyone does this
2) Clay - do you really want to put down a nice new coat of wax on top of all the environmental cr@p that is embedded in you clearcoat
3) Wash - gotta remove the clay residue and any contaminents left on the paint
4) Z2 or Z5 - what a novel concept - one product for filling swirls, one for show car shine
5) Buff to a brilliant shine - um ok
I'm confused? Where's the drama?

To make your like a bit easier when you polish or wax. Buy yourself a Porter Cable Sander/Polisher 7424 or 7336. Cuts time in half and less energy...

Zaino does take a bit of time. Every 6 months to a year (depending on how harsh of a climate you live in), you should do the full up Dawn + Claybar, Z1 (or ZFX) + Z2 or Z5 a few times.
That takes me about 8-10 hours to do right. But thats only once a year ... Otherwise, its just a wash every week or every other week (1/2 an hour to an hour), and a wax once a month (an extra hour or so).
Not too bad to do the upkeep.

I believed the wax/ washing interval and the time that needs to get an acceptable result from Waxing and cleaning greatly depends on what color your paint is...
you know if you have a silver car, you basically can get away any flaws... but no matter how many times / often you wax it, it will never have the shine as the Blue and Black paint does...

I think Nu-Finish is known for its requirement for lots of elbow grease.
Also I don't think it is a good idea to mix Meguire's wax with Nu-Finish polymer. Nu-Finish is an "all-in-one" product, you only need to apply Nu-Finish without any other wax first. In essence Nu-Finish is a synthetic wax.
Also Nu-Finish is known for longevity however it does not make the best shine.
Next time do Zaino - it lasts a long time and creates one the best shines in the industry. And is easy to apply - no effort.

If anything, Zaino is EASIER to apply than most other products out there.

You don't want to wash your car with Dawn every time you need to wax it. Dawn is very harsh and will damage the paint over time.
You really need to apply Dawn the very first time.
Especially with Zaino. Then the next time you are going to apply Zaino, wash the car with Zaino car wash beforehand and slap another coat of Zaino on it. Zaino allows to build multiple coats and the car gets even shinier.
I used to use Meguire's Gold Class and liked the shine, but it only lasted a couple of weeks.
Zaino lasts a couple of months at least.

You don't want to wash your car with Dawn every time you need to wax it. Dawn is very harsh and will damage the paint over time.

Dawn will not harm your paint. What it does is strip off all the wax on your car. It is dangerous because it removes the layers of wax you have on your car that protects the paint. You don't want to use dawn on your car unless you plan on putting at least a few coats of wax on the car first.
I would recommend cleaning the car with dawn first before you use the claybar, do it every 6 months - 1 year. I wouldn't worry about it damaging the paint at all though...

I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.

I do the full treatment every other month, and add one coat of Z2 every other week at the most. Dawn is fine for the paint, just dont use it ass the time.... and im 2 months past needing clay bar

Yeah, but the Nu-Finish is not really a true polish. It is just a synthetic wax, and it makes the car shine, so they call it "polish"

Well only the VERY FIRST application of Zaino will take some extra time, and a lot of that time will be spent on thourough washing and claying, so it is not really Zaino's fault.
True, if you live in a very humid climate, it will take some extra time for Zaino to dry before you can wipe it off.
