Going to the dealer....
I'm taking the TL into the dealer since the first time i bought it, i need to see what the hell is up with my gas mileage. I'm right under half a tank and with 170 miles that is crap so im taking it in to get a tune up and????
what else can you guys think of maybe oil change?

If it's city and short trips, consider yourself lucky.
They'll charge you to tell you nothing is wrong with it.
If it gets around 30 mpg on the freeway with the cruise set at 70, the car's fine.

Correction everyone its 150 miles not 170 and half of it was highway maybe 75-90 miles was on the freeway. What else do i need to do i think a tune up oil change? I want NGK spark plugs but i doubt they will put those in instead of the OEM!
My needle dropped fast to in my civic damn i miss that car probably 15 bucks to fill up. Cost 27 to fill the TL form empty to full wit premium gas 1.97 a gallon.
But we will see what Acura/Honda tells me 2morrow. I should just go buy a cold air intake and see what that will do.

Don't waste the dealers time, you dont know what you're talking about. 150 miles/half tank mixed driving is right on for a driver who likely brings it above 2.5k from a stop. No amount of highway driving will earn back the losses of city driving. If you go higher then 4K in the city, idle alot or run the A/C you're hitting your city mpg hard, then even if you do 90 miles at 65mph you'll never get better then 22mpg. Since you likely don't drive like that save everyone the time and slow down, get easy on the gas.
If you want to save gas, make sure you dont have ethanol, ensure your shifting in the city is around 2K and go easy on the highway. Otherwise expect to see the mpg you're getting now.
FYI - the cost of getting the dealer to tell you nothings wrong and/or do ANY service will eat into ANY savings you get from the service. I'd go as far as to say you'll be behind. Gas is $2/gal, you got to be ahead alot to make it worth the cost of dealership service.

If you think the A/C being used doesn't increase the amount of fuel burned you're greatly misinformed. As if it saves fuel to open the windows on the freeway vs. run the a/c I agree, you aren't ahead do to increased drag of open windows. However you said mixed driving and running the A/C in the increases the fuel burn - it's that simple. Anyone who says otherwise is ill-informed. Mythbusters covered the difference on freeway.
I still think you don't know what you're talking about and changing your driving would change the mpgs. You've got to have a heavy foot, and unless you're driving a civic you aren't able to flog it an stay above 25mpg mixed driving.
Have fun at the dealer...
FYI - if you didn't care, you wouldn't have posted.
Yo man, i had that problem when I first got the car 2.5 months ago.Thought that ther ewas something wrong because i got bad gas mileage. I changed the plugs, k&n filter and checked the tires, got a huuuuuge difference in gas mileage. On the city your gonna get bad mileage no matte what bro, I just when to frisco and back and got 30+ to the gallon, in the city i get about 20 or under. Its not the best in city, the dealers gonna tell you the same thing. But hey its your time.
I need to go change my plugs i think thats what it is. I know all the dudes at Acura there gonna check up my shit i gotta get oil change anyways. I aint trippin i get a loaner car so ha. And that dude rob bro whatever u say! You say ease up on the gas ha not with these drivers out here that drive under the effin speed limit!
i wish i could get 180-200 half a tank. i was getting like 110 on city when all i did was city driving and i was like damn! thats crazy I think i may just be use to my old car getting 300-400 mPG! hahaha

Wow, didn't even read that. Yeah I get roughly 300 miles per tank.
Nothing the dealer is gonna do for you, except maybe charge you $75 for the privilege of having them look at it.

I get my car looked at for free anytime, i can take it in just bkuz i want and i dont have to pay nothing. Only time i have to pay is if its a part that i have to buy. I never pay to get my car looked at. LOL! i guess im lucky i think im use to my civ
I'm real good friends with Stockton Acura! i have to drive a little but hey i rather use the gas then pay 90 bucks for them to check my car out.
So i went and to all that said it would be a waste of time you where WRONG!!! I guess the needle was broke so it dropped like that i am over a half a tank now they replaced it and all that good stuff it a mecanism or something that make the needle go up and down they said but now its fixed so it wasnt the MPG it was the dumb needle.
They said that i will get better MPG once i do the tune up so that will be next but i have to pay for that

Your funny. All you did was burn gas to have your needle adjusted. You NEVER measure MPG off the needle it's only a gauge. You refill the tank and take miles/gallons. Had you done this in the first place you would have an hour of your life back. Your still getting about 20-22mpg mixed driving.
Nothing major happens until 105K service. Here they adjust valves, replace belt, plugs and water pump. The only thing that might cause you to be less efficient is bad plugs. Otherwise the dealership is full of it. No tune up before 105K improves your MPG. Replacing air filters, and maintaining the condition of the tires/oil will help. But even air pressure has been shown to have little impact on MPG.
Want better MPG, drive slower and easier. It's that simple.

Find yourself a mechanic, non-dealership, who you can trust. They'll save you a lot of money on your repairs. Start by looking for a honda/acura shop, or an imports specialist. The dealership is going to rip you off big time in the long run.
A good local shop will probably charge 80-100/hour and charge you only for the work performed - not book value and the mechanic does it in half the time.
For parts check out acuraoemparts.com get your parts there, its a lot cheaper.
For future problems come with solid results, if your check engine light comes on, come with the code - folks on the board can help with that. If you tell them you 'think' you're getting bad MPG they can try to help you get better, but if you're not getting bad MPG you're getting no where. In this case, I woudl have been inclinded to fill the tank, half tank is about 7.4gal. In your case youwould have put in 5-6gal. You could have come back and said 'gas guage is off' and we could all fix that.
If you put on any performance parts, cold air intake, K&N filter or any product that increases air flow to the motor. You will likely see a decrease in your MPG. To produce more power you must burn more gas and by increasing the air the air/fuel mixture changes, burning more gas. I dont believe this is true if you reduce the back pressure on your exhaust (I stand to be corrected).
My experience with the K&N filter is a good one. I believe it produces more power, modestly but enough for my wife to notice, but I take a 1-2mpg hit on highway. I haven't hit 33mpg since I put it on.
Since you're coming from a civic that is lighter and half the displacement you'll need to get used to being lighter on the gas. YOu can flog a civic and not suffer. When you give it on a TL you burn gas, the car is heavier and you have a v6. It's going to chew up the gas. So be light in the city if you want better mixed driving.
I hope that helps.
^^ thanks, well i was thinking about getting one of those cold air intakes people say that the save you gas but as your saying its give you more horsepower and for more horsepower you burn gas correct?
I just dont want to buy something and then its not even efficient or anything.
Yea i know a couple of side shops that do honda/acura, i have it good at acura they give me deals, but im going to start looking into those other shops.
There is really no part out there that will make u get better MPG is there? I really dont trust webistes either because they put some stuff just so you can buy it

If the intake says it produces more HP then you'll burn more gas.
I'm unaware of anything that will increase your MPG. The best you can do is hope to keep what the car original does.

I filled up in PA at a little gulf station in ashland PA big signs saying no ethonal and I got worried lol filled up anyways and squeezed out close to 380-400 miles out of a single tank the typical fill up around here I get about 230-250 miles out of a tank... almost doubled my mpg!!Why is the no ethonal free gas in new york it that some type of emission law or something? or just gas companies ripping people off?
Anyways on the topic if you can get your car maintenance for free then do it but you also have to observe your driving habits.
lol didnt read the rest of the thread... I think I should get my gauge replaced sometimes it gets stuck when I start up the car and after a few bumps in the road it finally goes back up to where its supposed to be
