Ghost in the machine

My 2002 am radio likes to tune itself periodically. I live in Dallas, I'll have it on 1310 "The Ticket", be driving down George Bush Freeway and then the radio will jump to 1320 or 1300. Same for other radio stations...anyone else have this problem (this is the second deck in the car...had to replace the original because the CD changer didn't work... 4k miles...

Though I doubt this is the reason, someone wrote in the New York Times yesterday that his television changed channels inexplicably, all on its own. He said he made sure he wasn't sitting on the remote, nothing was jamming the buttons on the tv, and he was at a loss as to why the channels changed on their own. Turns out the guy in the building next door had his tv set up next to the window. Every time he changed the channel, the remote would send signals through the window into his apartment!

I don't know, but I'm trying to understand something here....did you say "GEORGE BUSH FREEWAY"? Maybe your radio is rejecting the fact that there's a freeway named after George Bush. That's a little weird, but the guy was president, and you are in Texas. Say, how long before "W" gets impeached for being so grossly and culpably tied to Enron.

Yup, it's named after Bush Sr., and not after Dubya.

Someone sent me that article a few days ago. That's the biggest bunch of liberal BS I've seen in awhile. The whole thing is full of unsubstantiated rumors and several bold-faced lies. The Democrats are trying so hard to turn this into a Whitewater. They have to do something - Dubya's popularity is soaring, and they don't want to get decimated in the elections this fall, so they need to try and take him down a notch just to survive. But there's nothing there - Enron gave lots of money to Bush, they came calling for special favors, Bush said no. That's the way it's supposed to work.

If you want a real smoking gun, check out Christopher Dodd and all the major contributions he received from the Big 5 accounting firms when he blocked SEC reform that would have prevented the very practices that led to the Enron debacle. The Dems better be very careful, because they are tainted by this whole Enron thing as much if not more than the Republicans, and this thing could blow up in their faces "big time" if they don't watch it.

Are you blinded by your partisan beliefs? You think Michael Moore is any happier with the Democrats? Wrong. When Americans begin to hear about more and more of these corrupt, pyramid scheme-esque corporate houses of cards this economy is really in for a rough ride. You think Enron is an isolated case? Do you really think Dubya and the rest of his bunch are going to come out of this mess in good shape? Our president is a joke. An embarrassment. Where would he be right now without oil money? His approval rating has everything to do with 9/11 and nothing to do with his

Most of what Michael Moore referred to in his letter is true, but you're too brainwashed to see it. If you would just read for yourself and learn the facts, you'd see that our "system" is a mess and the fallout from September 11th and Enron hasn't even begun to pile up.

And Clinton was such a good guy too... Getting blowjobs from fat chicks while the country went downt he crapper.
The dems are such wonderfull people. Ted Kennedy lecturing about Morals? yeah... Go drown your date and see if you gat away with it. Clinton bombing Somalia was such a accomplishment. Lets not forget he could have killed binladin but didn't.

this thread has become stupid. I was wrong to even open the politics can of worms. Its uttely futile to have this debate...why didn't George Bush go after Saddam Hussein? What about Reagan and Iran/Contra? What is the point? I won't bother going much further with this, except to say that Clinton's eight years as president were the most prosperous, and had the greatest economic growth ever. I don't care if he got blow jobs from interns (fat or otherwise). I don't care if Dubya likes to hunt animals and kill them for the sport of it. I don't care if he likes cheeseburgers. It doesn't really matter.

Republicans are no better, all politicians are people and people make mistakes and behave badly sometimes. I'm open minded, I look at both sides and listen to what they have to say without a partisan bias. That just leads to myopic points of view. Dubya is an idiot and an embarrassment...Republican or not.

clinton's f*ck ups didn't have a thing to do with gov't issue... he got head... so what. allowing special interest groups and large corporations to get away with hugely illegal dealings is completely different.

Yeah, I'm the only one here blinded by partisan beliefs.

I have no problem admitting that I am a conservative. And I can even respect true liberals who are consistent with their belief system. What I have no respect for are people who claim to have no partisan bias, because it's never true. Those people are either under-informed about the issue, or they lack the self awareness to see their own biases. It's even more despicable when they throw this "open-minded" crap around like you have, i.e. to imply that I must be closed-minded to believe what I believe.

So, even though you may think you are non-partisan, here's a little clue - you are a liberal. The first clue was the condescension in your posts. The second clue was the obvious hatred you have towards our president. Now, you may be able to argue that Bush hasn't done much good (I would disagree, but that's beside the point), but I don't see how anyone could argue that Bush has done an immense amount of damage in the short time he has been in office, therefore the hatefulness you have expressed towards our president cannot be a truely "non-partisan" expression.

Yeah, yeah yeah - it was all about sex. And perjury, and obstruction of justice.

And if you're looking for illegal dealings with special interest groups, Clinton could serve as a case study in just about every area - from the Chinese to renting out the Lincoln bedroom to selling pardons, he was as big a slut when it came to soliciting political favors as his interns were to him.

But let's add up the score on Enron based on what we know so far:

Bush - receives lots of money from Enron and other big oil. Enron going down the pooper, calls the Bush administration twice looking for a bailout. Both times - denied. So far, the worst the Bush administration has been accused of was meeting with Enron executives to form the energy policy. I guess when forming an energy policy, you should meet with teachers or steel workers rather than experts in the energy industry.

Clinton - approached by Enron to help them open a plant in India, which the local government opposed. Clinton puts pressure on India to do so, and they grant Enron the permits they need. Clinton "coincidentally" receives $150,000 from Enron.

Chris Dodd - blocks the SEC from enacting reform that would have prevented accounting firms from consulting with the same companies they do indepedant audits for - which is the one of the main factors in Enron being able to hide their sleazy accounting. A very thankful Big 5 gave him $450,000 personally, and several million dollars to Democrats in general.

So far, when it comes to Enron sleazy dealings, it's Democrats 2, Republicans 0.

Right on Mikester!

It just gets on my last nerve when people criticize Bush, even though he hasn't been in office very long. Give the man a CHANCE to succeed or fail. I think he's done everything and more when it came to bringing this country together after 9/11. When I hear someone talking smak' about GWB, I know right away....liberal democrat who hates anything and everything Republican. Now that's being closed minded if I've ever seen it!

My grandmother is a die-hard Democrat, and we always joke with her saying that if Jesus came down and ran as a republican, she would vote for the democrat!
