generic CAI questions.

I was checking eBay and found some inexpensive CAI's for my car. One was made by Cosmo Racing and other by CP something. both with shipping were 100.00 brand new and looked to be real CAI's, all mounting hardware included, hoses, fittings, clamps, filter, etc. Does anyone here have a knockoff CAI? CAI's are pretty straight forwarded and I would rather not pay the brand name premium of AEM or Comptech. I want to go this way or get a used AEM CAI for like 100-125.00 shipped. let me know what you think.

well that is my question. When it comes to a CAI do you really get what you pay for? Shit I could make my own CAI for 20-30 bucks and throw on a K&N cone filter for 40.00. I just believe that you pay a premium for the name brand(AEM, CT, Injen). does anyone here have a knockoff CAI or a used AEM CAI for sale?

You could make your own. Even though AEM has spent many hrs in R&D. It's pretty straight forward, cold air=power. I have a knock off from Ebay and its just as good as any1 else's. If you feel better spending more money go for it, for me money is an issue. just my

60 bux shipped. Fitment was not an issue, materials were good not great. No instructions ( I didnt need any). I definitely felt power the next day and the sound is sweet. Air filter was really good, and like I said AEM or Comptech are great but for me not an option.

I'm, its true, you get what you pay for! You wana pay cheap for random intake, GO AHEAD, but its guaranteed that its not gona be the same as buying one thats AEM, COMPTECH, or INJEN etc. Believe me, that saying is true. You just never know what could go wrong with a random one that hasent been certified and engineered ya kno. Thats my opinion though.

If you're gonna go with the generic CAI, you should at least get a reputable filter - swap in a K&N. As long as the piping is high quality, I'd worry more about the cheap filter either not filtering efficiently or ripping, which would defeat the purpose of a CAI.

True. But cold TURBULENT air is far worse than anything else. You get what you pay for...that's the bottom line.

It's true a K&N filter is only a few bux and will give you peace of mind with a cheapo intake.
