Gears laggin=vtec

is this normal? I have a 99 tl and when in auto, i would step on the gas but it is pretty slow, so when i step on it a little harder it would jump into vtec really quick. I don't punch the pedal hard at all really. If i just hit the pedal like i would in any other car the car would not even be as quick as other car on the road, leaving me far behind. But when i use SS, it is up to spped without much pedal pushing and the gears would shift more smothely the in auto

its 3800 RPM for the '99 TL...but thAviEtbOi 37, that is a very random question and I have no idea really what you are asking

you sure?!?!? i have a '99 and i'm pretty sure it was 4500.....'cause its now at 3900Vi-4000Vo = Vafc

AVIETBOY 37, vtec was meant for high rpm otherwise it would be a sick gas consumption. eitherway once you're moving and you shift down (ss or auto) you will either fall on vtec range or have to wait a bit because you'd be shifting into very high rpm...which the computer wont let you

^^it takes time to know your car, shift points, etc

your tranny might be slipping. that's what happened to me before my tranny died a week ago. my car is still at the dealer getting the tranny replaced. i hate all this waiting. plus the integra they gave me as loaner is slow.

i know that in my 99TL, the vtec would always kick in at about 3800. so im gonna go with ousig. the car just goes into this crazy rage before it hits 4000rpm..

vietboy, i dont know if its your tranny thats slipping, but try using the SS mode, and once the SS mode stops working after about 10 minutes of driving in it, then its the tranny. soon your tcs, check engine, and the D4 will start blinking, if it is the tranny. hopefully it isnt, because then you'll have to deal with the stealers..

sorry for not being clear, it is hard to explain. Let me give it another shot. when i am in auto and step on the gas it is very slow picking up the gear, but when i give it a little more pressure on the pedal, it seem to be acting like i am flooring it in a way and it does not shift smoothly. But when i am in ss, it is fine, get the speed up quickly like any other car with out much pressure on the pedal and mooth shifting.

i usually drive in ss becasue of this but until recently after reading on here that using ss to much is not good. I hope this is more clear for you guys, sorry about about it not being so

not good if you're not good at estimating the comp's shift points...but what you're saying is perfectly fine and normal

the only way to keep the tranny from dying is not so much driving nicely but doing the proper maitenance schedule
